Picked it up on Monday, and since I've not been able to afford any of the season boxes, I've quite enjoyed these 'best of Trek' type collections. A bit dissapointed that two of the included TOS episodes were some of the worst. But having the remastered versions helped a bit. Likewise it was nice that only two of the episodes have been repeats from past Collectives. Haven't had a chance to listen to any commentaries though. Hopefully this weekend.

And I guess I'm the only one who isn't a a big MU fan. The ENT two-parter was interesting, but fascist dictatorships tend to creep me out.

I was able to pick up most seasons of DS9 used at FYE between $20 and $35 and they were like brand new. You have to shop around. Also try Amazon used: I've never been burned and have always gotten great deals. Be sure to use a four star rated seller and you'll do well.

How the heck did "Living Witness" not make this set? It's a different form of alternate reality - that being through the eyes of revisionist historians, is the closest thing Voyager had to a mirror episode and is a damned fine episode.

Could not agree more! And it wouldnt' be a double dip! They use Course: Oblivion instead? Come on now--I can't believe that fans really voted for that over LW! No way!

I noticed that the fine print on the set has this disclaimer: "Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions." Is this a reference to the remastered TOS episodes in this set?

As I understand it, all the episodes contain the same visual material intended for broadcast. So definitely the full versions of TOS-R. The disclaimer refers to any kind of edit made. Incidental music is occasionally switched. If the copyright is owned by someone other than CBS for instance. It can still be heard in the background during the televised version. Legally there are differences between permission allowed for airing and selling on. It's not just Star Trek, there are many instances of TV shows which need their soundtrack altered when put out on home video.

That disclaimer is actually becoming common practice for TV Show DVD releases.

I'll probably pick this up at some point, being too poor to collect the full season DVDs. I've got all the previous Fan Collectives except for the Q and Captains Log ones, so I'll probably buy this.
