Alternate Possibilities: Trek What Ifs

Swissdictator

I'm not sure where to post this, so I hope this is the right place. Maybe this will inspire some stories too.

Basically alternate timelines of what happened in Trek Prime.

What inspired this: The horrific treatment of the Romulans over the last two films. Shinzon, and than destroying Romulus. Really? I mean I know (though don't understand why) a lot of people prefer the Klingons, but the Klingons lose a moon and the Romulans lose their homeworld?! What the? Bah... I'll save the rant for another time...

Here's some alternatives I'm curious about

Picard died fighting Soran. Kirk survived. Although I prefer Picard over Shatner's Kirk... what do you see happening? (One thing: Riker or Kirk) in command of the next Enterprise?

Personally I'd prefer Riker being Captain of the next Enterprise.

The Klingons, due to founders in their leadership, side with the Dominion instead of the Cardassians.

The Duras sisters won the Klingon Civil War.

The plot in Undiscovered Country succeded.

The Ferengi reform occured 100 years prior.

The Borg didn't exist.

Plus, why don't you come up with some of your own...

Since you ask about AUs, I have a couple of them, though my main one is Sigils and Unions: Catacombs of Oralius. It looks at one of the AUs seen in "Parallels" (TNG), where Cardassian and Bajoran roles are reversed. (You can get that series from my signature.)

Another one (though not one I will be writing more on) focuses on a Dominion victory what-if. http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=112457

Sorry for the shameless plug here, but since you asked for lots of different AUs, I went ahead and posted it.

I actually wished Picard would have died, and Kirk would have lived at the end of Generations. By killing off Kirk they killed the golden goose. Because, IMO, only among star trek fans is there really a debate as to which character was better between the two, and even then the way I see it? Kirk wins there too.

Out there, in non-star trek world, Kirk is by far, and Shatner too I might add, more associated with trek. No other actor, producer, writer..whatever...can compare to the guy/character. It isn't even close...so..an alternate universe where kirk had lived is (and is explored by shatner's own books but are not considered canon) are, I think, the best and most explored of any alternate universe...

As for plugging my own? Since all of my star trek stories, except one (Blood Island which was a script idea i had sent to Deep Space Nine) are AUs (Jack Bauer--Star trek Exodus--RMS ENTERPRISE ect) its hard to recommend one because they are definately different. My newer story, Voyeur's Handbook, may or may not be an AU. But it has lots of sex and violence, and thats always good!!!

But I do definately love to come to BBS and AD ASTRA and see what others are writing because I am always amazed with the writing ability. Some of these people writing these stories really are good; and I mean that.

Leonard Nimoy as Spock. Between him and Shatner. Nimoy as Spock may have a edge because Spock was a Vulcan and people love Vulcans and thier ears. :vulcan:

I wrote alternatives. See Ad Astra in my sig-the Seleya stories. How about an Earth where the Earth Prime guys won? Xenophobic, Earth shoots down anything that comes into their system. Or an ISS universe where Spock decided rather than loosen things up to hasten the passing of the Empire its a better idea to crack down harshly and ensure the Empire for all time as the blackest of dictatorships?

I've done two gender-switch AU stories for TOS (now toying with the idea of a TNG gender-switch... The Child would be a challenge, lol).

Like Swissdictator, I'm a Romulan fan -- okay, a Rihannsu fan -- and I basically ignore Nemesis. It never happened in my mind. ch'Havran is not a wasteland. I refuse to believe it. :rommie: I'd be happy to write a story declaring the whole thing a fever dream that Picard had.

I love the idea of Kirk surviving Generations. Of course, that's been done... somehow I managed to read those novels before even seeing the movie.

Since I'm a Romulan fan... how about an AU where they never managed to leave Vulcan, and instead divided up the planet? Or, they went in the opposite direction and ended up colonizing Earth.

I have a soft-spot for alternative possibility stories. One I'm working on (that's been languishing for months, alas :alienblush:) has Kirk and the TOS characters serving in a Royal Starfleet in a universe where the sun never set on the British Empire.

Hmmm. I need to get back to that story.

I believe Robert Scorpio tackled an odd offshoot where the Romulans were Earth Colonists or something(haven't finished the story so don't know the details) but this sounds intriguing.

Yes, you do. (we need a foot-tapping smily for moments like this).

Agreed on both accounts.

How about if Worf was killed by Duras?
Or if the Maquis succeeded in their attacks and their takeover of the Defiant?
Or if the Ent-E was self-destructed in 2063 (not sure when?) and it didn't succeed in destroying the Borg?
These three came to my head fastest, I'll probably have some more later...

PS: What if the virus killed Odo before "What You Leave Behind"?
PPS: What if Ro Laren hadn't defected to the Maquis?
PPPS: What if the Ent-E was destroyed by the Son'a before they got a message off?
PPPPS: My personal favorite: What if baseball hadn't died out before WWIII?
