Alternate Nero Theory *possible spoilers*

TheMadCloner

Captain
Captain
What if there really are two versions of Nero in the film?

But more importantly, what if Kirk pontificates on the virtues of heroism and convinces younger Nero, in typical Trekkian fashion, to help "the good guys." Younger Nero sacrifices himself to save the universe and the Enterprise, and at a key moment, saves Jim Kirk, ensuring older Nero never goes back in time. Romulus is saved in the future, the timeline is "reset."

Provides juxtaposition to the whole "destiny" thing with Kirk being Kirk no matter his environment. Whereas Kirk's destiny is independent of outside factors, environment plays a role in shaping Nero's ultimate destiny.

Oh yeah, and old Spock retains memory of the whole thing, and visits Nero's grave in the future.

(OK, so the last two paragraphs are teetering on fanboyism.)

i am confused.
when would kirk be able to talk to the young nero.
i mean nero is from the future where kirk is already dead.

If I get what hes suggesting it wouldnt work, for Nero to be born in Kirks time and be in the movie by the time his 24th C self comes back he would look as old as 'old' Spock

I think there are rumours going around that future Nero gets future, past Nero to help him... Even though what TheMadCloner wouldn't even make sence, because most of the actors are tied in to 2-3 picture deals, and I doubt they will make a film when at the end of it, makes no sence or point what so ever.

That would be called "candy ass" film making. It's what happened to Lucas in Episodes I-III.

Kirk becomes the Heroic Kirk by triumphing or transcending Nero in the film. How he does this is the nub of the plot, which I'm convinced now is based on Episode IV, "A New Hope", with Kirk as Skywalker and Nero as Vader.

This only has dramatic moment as long as there is conseqence to the story. Therefore Vulcan, like Alderaan before it, must be destroyed. It rests on Kirk's shoulders to save Earth and all that remains of the heart of the Federation.

If you can go back and fix things so there's no consequence to the story, than this movie will truly suck.

This, by the way, was one of the reasons why people got so sick of the Temporal Cold War. Some things just shouldn't be.

I don't disagree, but I think it's a possibility. The Nero=Vader thing only really works if JJ follows it up with another film showing Kirk redeeming Nero...

This, by the way, was one of the reasons why people got so sick of the Temporal Cold War. Some things just shouldn't be.

Again, no disagreement here, but I still think it's possible.

There's no reason why the next movies can't depict things in the "original" timeline that we didn't yet see. Although it wouldn't be nearly as good to do it that way.

But has it ever been established how long Romulans can live, or how they age?
