Alternate intro

I realise that there have been several discussions about this on this board. I prefer the slower version of 'Where My Heart Will Take Me' from Seasons 1 and 2 actually.

But what about using 'Archer's theme' as the intro instead?

It does seem to make Enterprise follow the previous incarnations of Trek by having a stately, slow majestic theme I think.

I still like the idea of a samba/bossa nova version of the song they used. Unfortunately I don't have a link because to my knowledge no one's ever recorded it, but trust me, in my mind it sounds great.

"Archer's Theme" is one of the best songs in all of Trek IMHO. That would've worked for me but I do like the the one used originally. The later version was good too, but I liked the slower version better of the two. I loved the theme for "In a Mirror Darkly," also. I have that and the more upbeat version of ENT's theme as MP3s having recorded them from the DVDs.

Interesting. I didn't realize there were two versions. It had been so long since I'd seen Enterprise; I'm not sure how many seasons I even watched. (Definitely not four.)

Right now I'm working my way through the whole series. Still in season one, but I'll watch out for the music change when I get to three.

I was just thinking about this -- I, too, prefer the S1/S2 version of the theme to the later one.

^ Yup. They also originally intended to use Archer's Theme for the opening credits.

A shame they didn't stick to the plan IMHO. Mind you, I don't "hate" Where My Heart Will Take Me, it's just that I like Archer's Theme so much better. It's just beautiful - <3 Dennis McCarthy.

Beautiful! I would have loved that.

And if "Faith of the Heart" was absolutely imperative (in some idiot's mind) I would have preferred hearing Scott sing it.

YES! They should have done it like "We Are the World," with each cast member taking a few lines. That would have been so audaciously different, people might have liked it.

By the way, here is another alternate intro, complete with a TOS/TNG-style voiceover by Captain Archer. It was posted on Doug Drexler's blog more than a year ago as well.

Beautiful intro, IMHO.

I'm gonna have to say "no."

For starters, "Archer's Theme" --whatever your opinion of it-- takes far too long to get to the 'rock' portion of the song. Now, granted, that's not a negative thing at all, and in the context of the track itself has little to no relevance. But for something like a show opener, no studio exec would go for it and frankly as a viewer it was rather dull to watch -- the slow harmonica and orchestral buildup to said rock climax of the song is incongruous with the imagery used in the opening credits.

Myself, as a fan and as someone who likes some form of thematic symmetry I might have preferred a new orchestration of Jerry Goldsmith's "TMP" theme as that seems to be always associated with productions featuring the Enterprise. Or perhaps the song used in the previews for Enterprise prior to it's premiere.

What do people think about a reworking of James Horner's theme from TWoK? I think it ties in with the "boldly going" part of the show's premise.

Well I have expressed several times that I love the visuals in the opening credits. It captured the grand nature of the show. But the theme we ultimately received just didn't match. This is a ship and crew striking out on one of the first great space quests of humanity and all they got for it was a cutsy pop song. In my opinion, I think it should have been more epic, more heroic. It should have been bombastic and sweeping. It needed to say "a hero this way comes" not my heart has some faith or something with an electric guitar. (Sorry for the rant. This is my one sore spot with the show I just can't get past.)

This is an example of what I think we needed stylistically.

Again, this is ONLY an example. For our purposes, it needs to be a little faster, have a few more strings and some dramatic play with the wind instruments but you get the idea. And they also need to keep the choir!
