I would like to discuss the alternate storyline for First Contact. There is another thread that praises the story of the Enterprise following the Borg to Ancient Rome. I thought going back to 2063 was bad enough. I don't understand why the Borg would travel back in time to a point where the technology that they were trying to assimilate didn't even exist yet! Doesn't Seven of Nine tell Neelix that the Kazon were not assimilated because they would detract from the pursuit of perfection? It seems that the Borg just wanted to add drones to their collective, which they could just get by assimilating any number of Delta Quadrant aliens.
In the grand scheme of things, it appears that humans aren't that desirable candidates, based on the description of the Queen in Dark Frontier. Limited cranial capacity, limited regenerative capabilities. Based on the Queen's assessment, the only thing humans have going for them is warp drive! The human spirit is not compatible with the collective as it is tied to our individuality, and it is lost when a human is assimilated. The Borg have a twisted sense of it in terms of their ambition to grow and evolve by assimilating other beings into the collective.
Thanks for hearing my little rant. I hope this sparks some good thought provoking discussion, I really look forward to reading some responses!
