Alternate Enteprise Casting

Bakula was nominated for 3 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes (winning the Globe in 1992) for Best Actor in a Drama for Quantum Leap. Clearly, his talents as an actor are respected in the entertainment industry. And I really loved watching him in that show--it was a tour-de-force role for him, and he made the most of it.

I never heard of anyone else being approached for the role of Archer, either. I recall something about his appearing in a pilot of another TV show, which got green-lighted, and it took a bit of time to fashion his role in that other show into a one-shot appearance so he could do Enterprise.

I thought he was a great choice for Archer. I enjoyed his performance very much, even when the writing of his character was inconsistent at times. I thought he was outstanding in Season 3, especially.

I have tried to think of other actors who could play the ENT leads, but honestly, I can never picture anyone other than Bakula, Blalock, and Trinneer. They worked for me.

First off, I like Scott Bakula, his Sam Beckett on "Quantum Leap" is a classic! But that's the problem, Archer had too much "Sam Beckett" in him; not enough gravitas to become the supposed template of all future starship captains. I thought Michael Biehn or Bruce Greenwood would've been a better Archer- ironically Greenwood is playing Chris Pike in the new film. Second, no Denobulan doctor- either Billingsley as a human doctor or my choice would've been a female Chief Medical Officer.

Connor Trinneer and Jolene Blalock made the show for me- great chemistry. I wish they'd act together again.

I agree on Bakula, but I've found nothing wrong with Phlox (quite the opposite). As for Biehn or Greenwood, both of them would have made good captains (and I hope Greenwood will), but someone mentioned Keith Carradine earlier, and it made me wanna re watch "First Flight" (so I did yesterday night). He really was great, and would have made an excellent captain. BTW I wonder why it never occurred to TPTB to do an alternate timeline episode with A.G. Robinson as NX-01 captain (maybe he would have made Bakula look bad, so this is for the better :))

My thoughts exactly. Like Richard Gere and Julia Roberts/Diane Lane :)

I thought Bakula was great as Archer. I hated Voyager and vowed to stray from Star Trek until I heard Enterprise would have Bakula in it. (I had only seen a few Quantum Leap episodes, but thought he was a sci-fi legend.) I'm glad I tuned in. Archer was my second favorite character, after Spock.

Olmos -- I think he's okay in BSG, but he works for that show because of the show. In other words, the commander (admiral now) is gritty and angry. Archer wasn't gritty or angry.

I think everyone was fine, but some of the guest stars were annoying, like the woman from Precious Cargo and Rajiin in Rajiin.

Though not for lack for trying on the writers' part, especially during season 3.
