Alternate captain uniforms for Pine?

Whofan

Fleet Captain
In the original series, Kirk often switched between the Yellow uniform and the green uniform. In TMP, he seemed to change costume quite often-there's the Admiral's uniform at the beginning of the film, the grey 'regular' suit, and the more casual white shirt. Even his maroon jacket in the sequels went through some changes/variations.

Do you think we will see something similar for Chris Pine's Kirk in the next film? I wonder if maybe they'll even go with a different uniform design entirely to further divorce themselves from the 'prime' timeline. After all, Kirk didn't wear the yellow uniform until the end of the movie, he was mainly wearing the black shirt, so uniform variation is possible.

I'd like to see him in a yellow undershirt with a black uniform top. It could be an optional uniform for everyone, kinda like how Generations had both the TNG and DS9 uniforms.

He was wearing a black shirt because he was unauthorized cadet on board a ship. He had no ranking, no position, and no division.

Stick with the uniform from the movie and introduce an updated form of the wrap. I don't really want to see new uniforms every movie, gets old.

How so?

TMP had new uniforms from the original series, but they stuck with the same uniforms from TWoK to TUC/GEN.

Then GEN only introduced a new commbadge, while mixin' the TNG & DS9 style of uniforms.

FC introduced a new uniform, and those were used in INS & NEM.

nuTrek used an updated TOS style, so its not really "new" new.

So, out of eleven movies, the uniforms have only really changed twice, once for TOS & once for TNG.

I always thought the wrap around was to disguise Shatner's growing girth. Surely Pine won't need that! :rommie:

Changing uniforms every movie would be weird. Militaries are more conservative than that - they don't change their look so frequently just because the costuming dept is bored. I'd expect Starfleet to keep the same uniforms for at least a decade, and the changes would be incremental.

As far as uniforms go, the TOS uniforms really weren't around all that long, if you think about it. Depending on what chronology you subscribe to, they were only in service for three to five years...

From what I've heard, that was the intent, but it's nonetheless a TOS Captains staple. The Green Wrap around was worn by Bakula in Enterprise and he didn't need help being fit.

As for uniforms in the next film, keep the ones you have. Add the Green Wraparound for Pine if you feel like it, toss in McCoys sickbay shirt if you want, even go so far as to give Uhura some sleeves! :rommie:

Nononono, the object to Kirk's uniform is making sure he keeps it off. So, the more shirtless Pine we get...

.... the better.

I would like to see something like the wrap around.

Same here. I always liked the green tunic like wrap around Kirk wore. It was distinctive and set him apart from the other crew to where you knew he was the captain.

I hope they do something like that for Chris Pine.

In the new movies, StarFleet is a military, keep the uniforms UNIFORM. I was never a fan of the hide-the-spare-tire wraparound. If they choose to change the uniform, it is their prerogative... but change it for everyone. Having said that, I shall now contradict myself... I always liked McCoy's sickbay tunic. It was a short-sleeve working uniform, because McCoy was not afraid to be elbows deep in healing his patients. However, when he went off ship, he wore the standard uniform.

A green tunic for Pine would be a bad idea. He has very blue eyes and green clash with it. The colour worked for Shatner, but not for Pine.

A gold wrap around tunic could look good on Pine. :)

AFAIK, the black shirt is part of all TOS uniforms (at least in the Abramsverse). They all have the black shirt underneath an outer one in the appropriate branch color. So Kirk was, technically, wearing 1/2 of a uniform.

And he did have a rank (Lieutenant), according to the transporter readout screen when Chekov is trying to beam up Kirk and Sulu.

For the ladies, Pine should wear a sleeveless gold tunic that slightly exposes his chest, similar to the Mirror Universe uniform.

^ They are the same ones who swoon over McCoy being so urbane.

Or adore Spock, the Quinto-sential gentleman.
