Alt. names for Akira class?

Katana should be a Sabre class vessel.

the only Akira i've featured in my fan-fic was a USS Sabalan NCC 63545 named for a mountain in Iran and an Iranian warship.

Out of character explanations aside, who says the Akira class is named after a human word? Maybe Akira is the capital city of Zonker Province on the planet Andoria, or maybe it's the name of the first Vulcan to invent warp drive, or maybe it's the Bolian word for "courage"... or whatever.

At this point the Akira name is too well established to change. Find a way to make it work for you.

Why not concentrate on a unique name that compliments the Akira-class name?

USS Tokyo, USS Kyushu (It's been dead for a long time), USS Okinawa, USS Katsuragi, USS Okami, USS Iwo Jima, USS Chrysanthemum, USS Shinto, USS Ikebana, USS Nihonjinron.

Those are just a few suggestions of the top of my head, all of them related to Japan, or the Japanese.

I like the scifi/speculative fiction/fantasy theme. Leaves room for Thunderchild and Akira.

I mean... people have named submarines "Nautilus", so there is precedence for fiction->reality.

There definatly are Akira class ships called USS Spectre and USS Rabin in the
Voyager episode Message in a Bottle.
