Alright, Apostle, Recommend Me a Car - Anyone Else Who Knows Cars Too

Re: Alright, Apostle, Recommend Me a Car - Anyone Else Who Knows Cars

If you are coming from full-size car then you should look at the Toyota Avalon. It's basically a low-end Lexus. There is enough room in the car to easily fit four 6'5" guys.

With respect to GM, I've been very happy with both Buicks I've owned, and we were happy with my wife's Century before we replaced it with a Chevy Impala. I'll never buy another Impala. Way too unreliable in winter. You even think about touching the break on ice and you're in the ditch. I fear that a Malibu would be the same.

I'm seriously thinking about Camrys and Accords, as well as the Ford Fusion and the Dodge Charger. The problem with the Charger is that it's RWD, which makes it a royal pain in Wisconsin winters. I remember pushing my Grandparents' '83 Buick Regal to church every Sunday in winter when there was fresh snow. I don't care how far RWD has come, that memory has stuck with me for 25 years.

True to form, Holdfast has recommended something upscale enough to match his clothes, but I'll be looking at the Audis too, as well as the Mazdas that flamingliberal recommends.

Keep 'em coming, folks!

All good cars. i'm 6'2" and never had a problem with my camry. My buddy has a honda.. Again, no problem.

However, as far as RWD goes, do they not sell snow tires where you live?
I live in NE Ohio, in the snow belt and used to have a Towncar. Never had a problem with her. It sure as shit was better in the snow then my xB could ever hope to be.

Here's the big question. Whats your price range.

Re: Alright, Apostle, Recommend Me a Car - Anyone Else Who Knows Cars

1) I love it when people use their personal experience of 1 car to either say that an entire brand is great or is shit.

2) I would recommend staying away from German cars. Yes they are fun to drive and look nice, but they also have terrible electrical problems, that goes for all of them, from VWs through Audis, Mercedes and BMWs. Porsche is the exception but I don't think you're looking at one of those :)

3) I would stay away from Chrysler. They have poor build quality and although I like some of the exteriors, the interiors are absolute garbage in all respects.

4) Personally, I wouldn't get a GM, their quality is not as high as some of the competition and I would still have some concerns over the economic situation.

5) Just a few years ago I would have recommended staying away from Ford but I think that they have turned things around quite nicely. Their newer cars look great, which is amazing because just recently they looked like shit on wheels and I think that they will be financial secure in the long run.

6) If you really want to be safe in the winter then AWD is the way to go and Subaru does that very well. The Impreza is made in Indiana, its got the size you are looking for and drives very well.

7) The new Toyota Venza also comes in AWD, though you can get just FWD, both come in 4 and 6 cylinder options. It is a stylish car, something which is fairly new to Toyota which also used to have a fleet of ugos. Its also a sizable car that would meet your needs in that regard. Also, it is made in KY.

Bottom line, I would definatley test drive the Impreza and the Venza.
