Alpha Flight

Heeroyuy

Lieutenant
Any thoughts on this comic series?

Basically Alpha Flight was an X-men spinoff of sorts-it was the team Wolverine was originally part of (presumabely when he fought the Hulk in his first appearence) before being recruited into the X-men. Basically, Alpha Flight were a group of Canadian heroes, led primarily by James and later Heather Hudson, who both wore the Guardian/Vindicator armor.

The series, created by John Bryne and penciled by him for the first year or so, lasted a good decade or so before being canned (Later issues notably featured early work by Jim Lee). Several attempts have been made to bring back Alpha Flight-most recently "Omega Flight"-but the team apparentally is currently in limbo, apart from the ocassional X-men/Wolverine/Avengers guest appearence. Interestingly Marinna, one of the original members who was presumed dead, was seen in stasis during the epic Kang storyline in Avengers nearly a decade ago (Which also featured Alpha Flight Nemesis Master of the World), but so far she hasn't been ressurected.

Couldn't put the spoiler tag in the edit. Apparentally although the film doesn't mention Alpha Flight, the Hudsons are represented by an eldery couple who are soon killed off. Oh well, there was really no chance of an Alpha Flight movie anyway...

I really enjoyed the original run of this series. It had a lot going for it and at the time JB was putting out some great work. Later after Guardian was mangled and mishandled I really lost interest. None of the attempts to bring this team back have clicked with me.
