Cricket 'was invented in Belgium'

New academic research claims cricket is not English, but was imported by immigrants from northern Belgium.

[...]

Earlier studies of his suggest that whilst the spiritual home of golf might be Scotland - records indicate the Belgians were also playing a recognisable form of that sport before people in Britain.

This just helps to prove that Belgium is the originator - or perfector - of everything good and fun (cricket, golf, fries, chocolate, beer,... )

You, for one, welcome your new Belgian overlords!

So Krikkit was invented in Bel***m?! I can only imagine what Douglas Adams would've made of that... :guffaw:

Explains a lot, too. :bolian:

Wasn't the first ever cricket international between the USA and Canada way back in the 19th Century sometime?

Bah, cricket and golf? You can keep them.

Cricket... I hate. But Golf? Whenever I play golf it's one of the few times where I don't feel like a monkey in an idiot suit. Very stern, serious game. Even if I can't get the ball past the windmill and that damn clown always spits it back out.

Strictly speaking, the MCC, an English private members' club, codified the laws of Cricket in 1788. That is when the modern game known as Cricket began.
