Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

"Cannibalism" is apparently an applicable term for eating a sentient being. I've gone down this particular rabbit hole many times with the people who argue Mirror Georgiou is a cannibal because she eats Kelpians.
Oh, OK. I thought it was only when they were the same species.
Yeah we know, but we don't really have a word for eating other sentient beings. (Unless we do)
I would think it would just be being a predator.

I know that, I just meant that I don't see a need to differentiate between sentient and non-sentient species in a situation like this.

Hunting, killing and eating a sentient species would require it. Just as hunting killing your own species does.

Generally speaking, "cannibalism" can refer to either the eating of humans by other humans (the original intent of the word), or to the behaviour of animals that prey on their own kind for one reason or another. Sentience or sapience isn't a factor . . . mostly because we're the only such species around by our reckoning, and as such our language is ill equipped for it. The last time there were other sentient species around to eat or be eaten by, it was the middle of the last ice age, and if there was a specific word for it, it's long since been lost in the mists of time.

So no, the Ewoks aren't cannibals by any current definition of the word, though they do play on similar tropes from largely fictional (if not outright slanderous) stories of cannibal tribes of the Caribbean; which incidentally shares an etymological source.

Indeed, fun fact: the word derives from "Caniba", which was how Columbus mangled the Caribs' name for themselves (one of the many reasons why Columbus was a git.) And to bring this back to Star Wars; the Caribs were native to the Lesser Antilles islands. So maybe one should be a little less judgey of Ewoks, and a little more suspicious of Corellian cuisine . . . 😉

But do we know for sure Ewoks don't eat other Ewoks? I mean it's not like they normally have lots of humans around to eat.

Are you seriously asking someone prove a negative? Endor has plenty of other large creatures around for them to hunt and eat. It's not like they've never seen anything human sized before. Hell, if they ever manage to take down a Gorax, that thing could feed a whole tribe for a year! I imagine the Dulocks are a bit too rangy to be worth eating (and I imagine the smell alone would be discouragement enough), but I wouldn't be shocked if they'd eat Ewoks, given the chance. And that's not even taking into account Gorphs, Yuzzums, Wisties, Gupin, etc. etc.

Pour one out for Uncle Bosie!

They are rebooting the classic movies! My new totally unfounded theory! :)

Gosling plays Han
Madison play Leia
Max Burkholder for Luke
Ian McKellen for Obi-Wan
Guy in suit while they use James Earl Jones Voice they have the rights to as Vadar
Hugo Weaving as Tarkin

Oh yeah, Celebration is in Japan, so stuff is going to be revealed in the afternoon/morning for those in North America at least

For me, It is 12 hours ahead.

So for example the Bit Reactor game reveal is going to be 4:30AM my time, Ooh lord.

Well at least I'll be waking up to neat stuff hopefully.

For those looking forward to seeing any panels at celebration on the live stream; from what I'm reading there won't be any panels livestreamed at all. Looks like this time around all they're doing is the usual side interviews and merch promotion that used to just fill the gaps between the panels. So if you're not in or near Japan's timezone, I really wouldn't recommend staying up late for it. You're not likely to miss much outside of some fans live blogging. Any trailers or announcements will likely be on the official channel come morning.

A pity, but it's been sliding in this direction for the last two or three celebrations.

The Clone Wars movie has been playing on a loop on the Star Wars Kids channel for over a day now.
