Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

The idea of a First Jedi story set thousands of years in the past really intrigues the Asimov fan in me. I think of the Elijah Baley/ Spacer books in relation to the Foundation books and can see something similar happening here. This would really start to realize the potential of the vast galaxy that's been established so far.
Well it's not like this is the first time someone's taken a swing at it (they even recycled the name!), let's just hope this version lands a little better . . . or a lot. Preferably a lot. Can you tell I wasn't a fan of the EU version? Too insular. The pre-Jedi were way too similar to what they would become. No real distinctive style of it's own.

Never read the EU so it’s all new to me

I enjoyed the EU's take on it, but I also get Reverend's criticisms and don't entirely disagree with them. But I still thought it was fun.

Also, I would be very surprised if Ahch-To doesn't feature in this movie (or movies?) at some point, since it's supposedly the first Jedi temple.

I'm not bowled over by anything I've heard or seen thus far. I feel the best about Ahsoka, though the teaser didn't leave me excited like the Kenobi teaser did. The glimpses of the lightsaber action scenes looked very stilted, and hopefully they'll be more fluid on the series. The Acolyte has an intriguing cast, but I haven't gotten into the High Republic. Skeleton Crew also doesn't appeal to me and seems like a waste of Jude Law.

I don't really care about the Dawn of the Jedi idea. I didn't read many of those comics (though I did love the artwork and if I recall the Rakata), or the novels. I liked the EU a lot more than Disney Star Wars so it was neat to get the little nods I did see in the Ahsoka trailer.

The biggest announcement to me was Rey. It's a logical move. All the sequel films were billion-dollar movies, so it makes financial sense in a sense to return to the sequel lead character. That said, those films were also divisive and this could be a test to see how much the mass audience really likes the sequel characters. I suspect that a lot of people went because it was Star Wars and others to finish the trilogy. That said, the new Rey film will still be Star Wars and perhaps the brand name will still have that drawing power. Nothing against Ridley, but I found Rey to be poorly developed and wasn't that interesting a lead. Ridley's performance is what made the character work for me, when the character did work for me. I'm not enthusiastic about another movie or several about Rey, though I am curious to see what Disney's post-sequel plans are.

I do think it's too soon to go back to Rey. If this was actually 15 years after Force Awakens that would make more sense. By then nostalgia would've done some of the work, and perhaps Disney Plus would've used its series to make the sequels more palatable like Lucas did with Clone Wars when it came to the prequels.

The current series are doing a great job of fleshing out to flesh out the Sequel trilogy in a way that I think ended up lacking. While I love the sequels, I personally have realized that TFA was not the best way to start the new trilogy. It would have been better served to have something similar to Ahsoka and Mandalorian type story, like a battle with the Imperial Remnant (Thrawn if absolutely necessary...ugh) leading up to the First Order attack.

Personally, the Rey movie is right up my alley. I love Daisy Ridley, I thoroughly like Rey and more than that my girls like Rey a lot. I think there is a lot of potential here and it isn't too soon.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

Say whatever else you will about the current state of things, but there's been a constant embrace of the familiar.

The Dawn of the Jedi project is said to be a Biblical epic style film, like say The Ten Commandments or Ben Hur. Grand scope sort of films that tell something that is legendary, grand, and has a scale far beyond what would be considered normal for a film. How they do that? I don't know. There have been seeds of ancient lore in Rebels, Jedi Fallen Order, The Clone Wars, Bad Batch, and The Last Jedi. Some of that seems more Old Republic era, but the Zeffo stuff and first temples seems Dawn of the Jedi era to me.

About time the epic returned. I don't like Dawn of Jedi stuff but if that's the approach then something could appeal.

Yeah, while they may be using some old EU elements, they're very much cherry picking what works and discarding the rest. And I think it's fair to say the original DotJ didn't really work. Not that it was terrible per see just utterly unmemorable, which is perhaps even worse.

I think the only direct link we have to the Dawn of the Jedi so far is the temple on Ahch-To and it's little "Prime Jedi" murial that seems to have been the basis for that era's symbol.

The Zeffo stuff feels unrelated. A little contained side-story and cautionary tale.

Is anyone else a tiny bit disappointed that the Rey New Jedi Order movie isn't Episode 10? Just cus she was part of the sequel trilogy and Lucas had also played around with the idea of 12 Episodes. Since it takes place 15 years after episode 9 I think they could have made it that.

Especially since it follows a Skywalker. Might as well keep the Skywalker saga going and call it Episode X.

Nope. I am ready to leave that Episode structure behind and just have stories in the Star Wars universe.

Probably a controversial opinion but I never felt like I needed more of the Skywalker Saga. I enjoy the OT, and the ST, but getting out from that structure appeals to me a little bit more nowadays.

Maybe later. If her new film goes well and someone decides they can spin another two movies from it, they will retroactively make it Episode X. Star Wars was just that in 1977. Only when it got a sequel did Lucas make A New Hope as Episode IV.

I would definitely up for a Lando show, especially if we get some kind of flashforwards with Billy Dee Williams too.

I'd like to see a Lando movie with minimum callbacks to the rest of the OT / crew, with a new, awesome ship that doesn't remind us of the Falcon, and a few cool sidekicks to include a sweet new droid or two. Keep it SW, but make it fresh.

As popular as The Mandalorian might be, I can't imagine anyone thinking a movie based on it would draw people to the theatres.

Filoni's movie will close out more than just the Mandalorian, but in all likelihood be the grand finale of that, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and by extension, Rebels and The Clone Wars. I'm very interested to see how he ties it all together in the end, and I'm reasonably confident based on his past performance that he has a the story set in his mind. I think his movie will be the most popular of the projects before they are all completed- whether he can hold the crown afterward is up to the scriptwriters, actors, and directors.
