^Ah, ok. -Didn't know it was a nuclear plant, all I can see are cooling towers (which -just btw- neither Fukushima nor Chernobyl had).

ETA: That's wrong, my bad, they do use towers like that at Chernobyl...

Yeah. I noticed that. I stepped away from my computer for a bit while I had this page up, and didn't realize I forgot to refresh.

^Yeah, sometimes there's a cup of coffee between posts here, sometimes only a sip of it

ETA: More bad of mine: Cooling towers and reactors #5 and #6, at Chernobyl, were under construction when 'the incident' happened on reactor #4... before that there were no cooling towers on the site.

As it turns out, those towers appear to have been part of a coal-fired power plant near Cape Town. I just associated that sort of tower with nuke plants because that's where I've most often seen them in use.

^Denmark is a small country surrounded by seawater which gives excellent cooling, to me cooling towers always were exotic objects scattered around the near-city countryside of foreign lands... Beautifully sculpted pieces of mysterious alien artifacts, in function only slightly less mysterious than the artifacts present in their bathrooms.

We don't have cooling towers with nuclear generating stations in the UK. That was a reference lost on me too. Blown up loads of cooling towers in the past couple of decades though. Some just last week.

You know how it is. These family drinking sessions will get out of hand. Hey Deckerd there's 2 cooling towers not far from mine if you start running out of them up your way.

 I love the idea of Demolition Deckerd. I should apologise for cultural insensivity but as others have mentioned those types of cooling towers are mainly coal-power in UK and regularly demolished. I'll try to be more aware in future.

it's interesting how the same thing can seem totally different, depeding on where you life. It's also the most common source for misunderstandings and quarrels.
I live about halfway between 2 nuclear power plants:

No time to run, should either blow up.

^I see a domed reactor enclosure-building in one of those pictures... that makes a small danger light flash inside me

I hate it when the reactor enclosure is camouflaged by a building of a different shape :p

ETA: But I still love the shapes of the cooling towers :bolian:

No matter what they are attached to, demolishing cooling towers is only dangerous if you're standing too close when they come down. As regards whatever the generating station uses as fuel it's as dangerous as if the local church has a jumble sale.

Right, but they can be scary places...
