CBS offered me a free month to come back. The code is 'BINGEITALL' and has to be used by 09/04/2018.

Might as well give Discovery another shot, and finish up the first season (three episodes to go).

Have fun.

I'm always hard on Star Trek that isn't the original. I figure I owe it to Discovery to give it another try, especially when it is FREE. Take some of the explanations and discussions here to heart and see if it helps me understand the show better.

Besides, we've got a three-day weekend with nothing pressing to do.

Oh I do hope you enjoy watching more on your second try. :) My expectations were really low before I watched, and I didn't think I was ever even going to see it, I mean I waited almost a year before I finally gave Discovery a try. I feel when I just accepted it for what it is I was able to enjoy it so much more in its context, I really do feel it's a very well written and acted story. It's not the Original Series or the Next Generation, but I've got the Orville to satisfy that craving of mine, but I do feel it's still an interesting show on it's own with plenty to offer.

Have fun! :)

I used a free trial for CBSAA through Amazon to get through Discovery's 2nd half of the first season. For now, "free" is the only way I'll watch Discovery, it's just not interesting enough to me. Pike and crew might change that as there's no one left on Discovery's crew I'm interested in seeing.

CBS sends me free month offers in email all the time. Most subscription entertainment companies do, once they have your email. The conversion rate makes it worth their while.

Did the first half of the first season that way, then dropped the show except for the finale.

There are a couple of legit* ways to see this stuff free, and I expect I'll do that for a week to see Pike. Don't be surprised if CBS runs the premiere on broadcast again as a come-on, anyway.

*Not talking piracy here, mods.

I don't mind paying the money, in all reality I'd never miss the $10 a month. I just don't like paying for something I don't use, it's why I don't have cable TV anymore, I'm 100% steaming these days. Subscription services are the future and IMO the way to go, so CBSAA could easily win me back by putting out more content I want to see. That's why I have Netflix and subscriptions to HBO, Showtime and Starz from Amazon.

Huh. So if I cancel one of these suckers every so often, I can get a free month to get me to come back? Thanks for the pro tip!

I thought that this was common knowledge. (Unless you are being sarcastic, hard to know sometimes :shifty:) Some services even offer you a free month at the moment you cancel to keep you watching.

The objective is to get a person to sign in, no matter if they give few months for free doing so. After that there are always significant amount of people who either find something to watch to pay an extra month, or just simply forget to unsubscribe on time. It does not matter to a subscription service how many people watch it for free as long as enough people pay for it.

SiriusXM is well known for offering folks about to cancel their subscription a much lower rate. If you don't mind going a day or two without the service, and spending a few minutes on the phone, you can save some money.

Yes. CBS is desperate. Midnight's Edge has a good piece about the huge number of canceled subscriptions they had shortly after Discovery premiered

Final numbers don't mean much.

10,000 people quit as 30 thousand people signed up, so it can look like 20 thousand people signed up and no one quit.

Midnight's Edge is full of shit. They don't seem to have much awareness for Star Trek's making of history, and their bias stinks throughout, invalidating any objective "reporting". My favorite is their implication that Netflix was upset with how CBS was producing DISCOVERY. What was the reason? "They were not being faithful to Prime canon".

HO. LY. SHIT.

Only fanboys.
