Aliens other than TOS aliens

I'd take it as a given that if Andorians appear in the movie, even if they don't resemble the Michael Westmore Andorians of ENT, they'll certainly look a lot better than the original TOS makeup.

Tellarites and Caitians strike me as unlikely. They're pigs and cats, people. Pointed ears and lizardmen are cool. Furballs and pig tails less so.

Another vote for bringing back the Andies, ENT flavor. Also Orions, little gold dudes, random space rogues in the Cyrano Jones/Harry Mudd mold, over-ambitious androids, aliens posing as gods, gods posing as aliens, vampiric sparkly light clouds, body-snatching Medusans, Federation bureaucrats drunk on their own power, overprotective mommy Hortas, disembodied brains addicted to gambling, insane admirals, anal-retentive space probes gone bad, chatty gateways to time & space, Gary Seven & Roberta Lincoln played by James Remar & Alison Mack, and tribbles. Mountains and mountains of tribbles.

I wouldn't even flinch at seeing a Rommie or two - cover their ears up, and who's gonna make the connection to Vulcans? I'm still undecided about the Space Nazis. Maybe for the next movie. This one's gettin' pretty full.

Include the Ekosians as major heavies, hint at the Cardassians, but leave the Na'kuhl for the sequel. (Interestingly, their name sounds a lot like 'Not cool' - clearly, Mr. Coto knew how they would be recieved.)

Well, having them be articulated is a good idea. But I don't think that's what he's saying. I'd rather have an Andorian who seemed more... alien... too. Shran and his cohorts were good makeup but were... well, they were "typical SoCal" in every other way.

Looking at this page, I'd love to see someone more reminiscent of Ambassador Shras (the second image down) but with articulated antennae similar to what Shran had. Shras was just... more ALIEN... IMHO of course.

You misunderstand. I'm not saying "Southern California is bad." I'm saying that, notably in latter-day Trek, EVERYONE IN THE UNIVERSE was like a southern Californian.

I'm just saying some VARIETY would be a good thing. Shras, for instance, struck me as being Mediterranean. Possibly Cicilian? Anyway, he was definitely a guy in makeup, we all know that. But he didn't feel as... "generically Southern Californian" as EVERYTHING in latter-day Trek has.

Give us some REAL diversity... not just ethnic background but actual behavior, speech patterns, etc. That's what I'm saying.

Make an Andorian speak with an accent that might get someone a second look at a pizza stand at Venice Beach for cryin' out loud! Make him (or her) act in a way that, even without the makeup, might get some odd looks from people at the Galleria.

Being "alien" is more than JUST MAKEUP, in other words. Makeup, ultimately, is far less important than the acting under it, if you ask me. And the latter-day Trek acting was less "acting as an alien" and more "acting normally but wearing makeup."

Clearer, but I still wouldn't agree. It doesn't really matter what accent or lack of accents an alien uses. None of them sound alien anyway. It didn't bother me that all the aliens on Farscape sounded Australian, or that most of the aliens on Star Trek sound Californian. Really, making an alien 'alien' goes down to the acting, the makeup, and the writing - not the accents.

IIRC the actor is an Austrian, but irrespective of his continental accent, real people speak with it as they do in the Southern Californian style. It's no more or no less alien than the alternative.

...Which explains the lack of diminished lung capacity.

I wouldn't mind a few Bajorans as such, but any of these nose/forehead aliens would seem wasted effort... It's a movie, with a movie budget. Let's see complex makeup, CGI spicing, exotic shapes and types of motion. Perhaps some of the Diane Duane aliens, which are technically still "TOS aliens", only noncanonically so?

We actually learned a lot more about Andorians in Enterprise than any other series. Their few appearances in TOS didn't tell us very much.

That being said, of course it'd make sense to have Andorians in this film - they *are* members of the Federation of course.
