I'm not convinced the egg-transformation angle works. It makes more sense and works better with the queen even if the transformation is a more alien method. The flaw with making them into eggs is it's too slow and ineffective.

Plus, if it were mutating everyone into eggs, why did it kill the last two crew members? For food? But then what did the burster eat? I'm not against the possiblity they reproduce that way too but it seems less likely given Cameron's take and with the one from Alien 3 slaughtering everything it can find left and right as opposed to egging them.

I remember the novelisation mentioning something about how the crew found out that their food stores had been consumed sometime between Kane's death and the drone's first kill.

The Alien can turn dead bodies into eggs as well, remember it killed Brett and then Ripley found his CORPSE becoming an egg. It was probably going to go back and cocoon Lambert and Parker's corpses as well.

In A3, the alien had to protect the Queen fetus and did so by killing all those physically capable of harming Ripley. IE, everyone.

And yet in Alien 3 no corpses were transformed, something that sounds like a good idea if the plan is to propagate the species and at the same time keep the queen safe.

It knew there was a queen already in a host ready to be born, so others to make into eggs were unneeded. The queen would make eggs for anyone left over, but until then all threats had to be eliminated. If that meant killing all the prisoners then so be it, because Alien eggs can remain usable after thousands if not millions of years.

Apparently the aliens gestate faster in the AvP films because the Predators bred them that way. I remember reading AD Fosters Alien novel and in that he talks off the drone raiding the Nostromos supplies, apparently there was a scene where they try to blast it out the airlock and someone (Ash) saves it but they couldn't do it as the technology wasn't there
