Aliens in TMP

The Rigellians were good—although if I were going to bring them back, I'd make them digitigrades. The rest I could do without. I also never really liked the Andorian makeup in the movie. (After TOS, the Andorian makeup in all their attempted incarnations was pretty awful until Enterprise, really.)
I think lame make-up was one of the reasons why they did not feature Andorians for years but they were one of the best things in Enterprise and it's a shame that they have not featured more prominently in the reboot. Bolians were Andorian-lite and I think they are much more boring because of it. I think basic masks are considered OK for background aliens but fiddly antennae not so much. They should have had a more prominent recurring Andorian security guard IMO.

I don't remember Andorians in the reboot, I'll have to watch the films again. Andorians were, of course in TAS!

Do what I do, simply refuse to accept them as being Caitians. They're simply an alien race with tails.
I'm not even sure they were really intended to be Caitians in the first place. If you look at the exchange from the interview with Lindelof where he "confirms" this, it seems to me that he's just humoring the interviewer and going along with the suggestion as fed to him.

There weren't. Only as mentioned by McCoy in 2009. "Andorian shingles."

The twins were scripted as Caitians, and there was an interview with the two actresses, in which they talk about the day they tried on and screentested all manner of felinoid appliances: ears, noses, tails, paws, fur, etc. In the end, the makeup artists and director settled on very minimal facial appliances, plus the prehensile tails. So scripted as Caitians, but canonically presented onscreen as tailed humanoids.

Ah, ok, didn't know that. Thought the only thing indicating that was the Lindelof interview. Is the script available online anywhere?

Katie and Kellie Cockrell:
Another challenge was the makeup process involved in becoming Caitian. “We did ten to twelve makeup days, which are full days, twelve hours on set at least, sitting in a makeup chair with these really great special effects makeup people,” said Katie. “We tried a ton of different things. One of the first things we got done was a head cast; Kellie went first she’s a little bit more brave then I am so she was calm, but when I was doing it, I was having panic attacks because it’s so claustrophobic and you can’t take it off for ten minutes.”

“They made prosthetic ears [and] prosthetic noses; in the movie we have these kind of scale type things. Our characters are cats, and for our tails, when we were filming the scene, there was a special effects guy sitting right behind us actually moving the tails.”

Another interview (but no Caitian factoids):

There are some blue humanoids in the audience at the academy. I can't recall if they had white hair. Just saw Beypnd, very enjoyable but I confess, part of me was disappointed not to see more familiar aliens. I was subconsciously trying to pigeon-hole them, thinking, could be a Kazarite? Yeah, that'll do. Sad.

In the comics, Star Trek has crossed over with Planet of the Apes, Doctor Who, and even Green Lantern. I don't know why they haven't done Aliens - it might be a licensing thing, or maybe they just think it would be too dark and gory.
I remember the first Marvel comic following the last TMP issue; I think number four: there was a very ALIEN-type alien in "The Haunting of Thallus."

Very cool pseudo-crossover for a tyke of the day like myself. I have my original copy still... somewhere.
