but the effect was nicely done

His face was an inconsistent size relative to his head, and at one point his teeth warped along with his lips.

I have no idea who signed off on the vfx for that or why, but it's one of the worst face swaps I've ever seen.

I also don't understand why they chose the actor they did for Rook.
I don't have the article at hand, but basically, it's because that actor didn't reprise that role while similar actors reprised theirs. And when it was suggested to the actor's wife, she thought it was cool.

Quite good overall. Id say 3rd best Alien movie.
My bugaboo was.. where did the face huggers come from? Did they clone them? Or did the original big chap pull an Alien directors cut and "make" face huggers

I'd go with 3rd best too. Andy's big line was a bit rubbish and the 3rd act was bonkers but overall I enjoyed it.

My guess for the facehuggers would be that is they sent a probe to the Nostromo then they could have also sent a probe to LV-426 to collect some eggs.

I also don't understand why they chose the actor they did for Rook. The role seemed obviously written to be another copy of David – did Fassbender just not want to do it?

I posted a link to an article about that a few posts about Gerard's post. It was never ment to be David, always this particular character.

In the meantime: https://www.joblo.com/alien-romulus-overseas/
This is not a surprise. In the past, Alien has always done a lot better here in Europe. Not sure why, but it has a huge following here.

Yeah, that is the only part that was left unclear. Perhaps one day we'll see some deleted scenes. But judging from the containers that held the facehuggers, which appeared manmade, I got the idea they were cloned somehow. But yes, that was confusing.

I've seen someone else point out that there is a screen in the lab with a pic of the facehugger and the word printing + a half printed facehugger so cloning and 3D printing clones might be the answer (still need someone to clone though).

Yeah, that's something I'd noticed (Though my mates didn't). I wondered if they wee adapting it from the goo.

Watched it yesterday and generally enjoyed it.

Too many Memberberry moments for my liking (who thought reprising that line was a good idea?) and the animatronic you-know-who was an abomination.

Fascinating that it's done so well in China, compared to most US movie released there in recent years. Just feels so random that this is what would be a hit over there.

Pretty good movie. There was a lot a recycled plot points we have already seen though. Even the ending was just Resurrection again. Seeing Rook again was a nice surprise. My favourite part was the alien saving Rain from the fall. That made me laugh. About time we had a "heroic" Alien. :)

The film wasn't as scary or gory as I thought it was going to be, considering the director. Probably explains the 15 certificate.

I'll give it a good 7.5/10. If it had Romulans, I'll give it a 9.

I got the impression that was THE Rook from the Nostromo, so David wouldn't have made sense.

It's funny, everyone's complaining about the "get away from her you bitch" line being brought back in this movie. And while I agree, that was terrible, I thought the ending with Rain repeating Ripley's "signing off" speech from the first one was much worse.

It was also very rude considering that alien saved her life.

My guess is that Weyland breed them on the station, probably from workers they had "fired".

So how short of a movie would Alien 3 have been if they had used these super short gestation periods?
I think with Ripley it was because she was giving birth to a queen alien. Plus I think she was taking medication to slow the alien’s progress.

I don't recall Ripley taking medicine but then again the slow gestation period in all recent Alien movies since AVP can be explained in-universe.

AVP 04 is an alternate continuity and thus is not connected to the proper ALIEN universe (nor the original AVP EU)

Alien Covenant, the xenomorph was an offshoot called a Preatomorph created by David and not a true xenomorph.

Alien Romulus, the xenomorphs are modified clones (in the vein of the Resurrection Xenomorphs) and even look different from Big Chap shown in the film.

Don't quote me on this, but I think Ripley taking the medication to slow the growth of alien comes from the novelization, which is based on an earlier screenplay that had the alien coming out of the ox instead of the dog amongst other changes.
