Well I wouldn't say Ash wanted humans dead, he was just following orders from The Company. Some thoughts
Rook was really closer to Fred Pohl (Man+Plus) than Ash or David--who wanted humans dead.
The rat evoked more of 2011's THE THING, style wise. I liked this distillation.
I think it's AVP that first radically sped up the gestation period? Though I guess we have no idea how quickly the colonists were infected in Aliens. As with everything else, I imagine the gestation periods in any future Alien movies will be entirely contingent on the plot. Whether it's long or short will depend on which serves the movie's plot.
So how short of a movie would Alien 3 have been if they had used these super short gestation periods?
I am not so sure—we’re I a company man/droid that was loyal—-I would (if I were Ash, take Parker’s advice—freeze Kane and put him in the shuttle.Well I wouldn't say Ash wanted humans dead, he was just following orders from The Company.
Ash could have wanted to observe the xenomorph's capabilities? Maybe?I am not so sure—we’re I a company man/droid that was loyal—-I would (if I were Ash, take Parker’s advice—freeze Kane and put him in the shuttle.
I think Ash betrayed the Company and not just his crew.
You make a persuasive argument. But I have a feeling (given the additional lore from other movies) the xenomorph would have entered a state of hibernation shortly after killing off the non-synthetic crew. I figured Ash would then have delivered the xenomorph to the company. For his own amusement I think—remember, Burke wanted Ripley and Newt as hosts during hypersleep…easier to contend with.
The responsible thing would to to accompany Kane in the Narcissus.
From the Company’s point of view, space truckers would likely try to kill it.
Had Big Chap killed everyone off (by some accounts it was already dying as it hid in the shuttle)—it might have gotten hungry—bitten into an electrical main—got lost in the refinery.
I just get this feeling Ash was a bit more independent than Rook.
One other thing…I think Ash respected Kane, the only human crew member who was a true explorer at heart.
Now while there was a scene where he raised a pistol—-we don’t really know what spooked him—his leaning over an open egg (that most would run from) makes me wonder if he volunteered to take the spore…his confusion upon awakening perhaps caused by seeing crew mates.
Daniels Betts provided the voice.BTW, how did they do Rook's voice? Did they use an AI to mimic Ian Holm's voice or just have a soundalike do it?
I think it's quite telling that they don't massively take the piss out of it and completely tear it apart the way they do a lot of things (I think the Pitch Meeting was similar in that respect)
