ALIEN prequal is confirmed.

Yes Cameron did direct Aliens but it did have the same feel as the original not so with the others especially Ressurection.

You know, I actually preferred Alien 3 and Resurrection over Alien and Aliens. And I thought the first AvP was actually decent, though Requiem was pure unflitered shit.

People keep mentioning a "space jockey" alien? What is that? It's been a long time since I saw Alien.

Eh. I don't have high hopes for it. But I'll probably buy a ticket just to say "thank you" for disentangling the Aliens from the Predators.

Well on the plus side it looks like the Scott Free company is involved, though I'm still waiting for the impossible dream of Ridley Scott & James Cameron collaborating on Alien 5. Perhaps this film will test to see if audiences will watch an Alien film without Ripley or the Predator and proceed from there. I can dream!

Alien is a horror movie, Aliens is a war movie... I like Aliens better, largely because I like the latter genre more, and because it was nice to see someone in an action role who could actually act.

A prequel could be cool if done right.

I never saw Cubed or Resurrection... should I bother?

And now the guys who made the first Alien intend to un-rape it, and breathe new life into those corpses, by essentially rebooting the franchise ala Trek, in a way that permits them to essentially ignore the existing spin-offs,

Anyone with any sense and discrimination, and I realise this may not include film companies, ignored the spin-offs from the getgo.

I have a lot of time for what 3 tried to do, but it's flawed and nowhere near as good as the first two (and it ruins Aliens) plus it features excrutiatingly bad early Cgi. Resurrection is just plain bad, the only redeeming feature is Weaver playing a very cool Ripley.

I'm annoyed that they're making a prequel. There's no reason a new Alien film couldn't be set contemporaneously with Aliens/Alien 3, or shortly after. I guess there could be another ship, pre Nostromo, that encountered the aliens. Heck maybe they met with the space Jockey's ship and the film will end with some kind of noble sacrifice that sees SP's ship crash on LV426.

If they can make a film that's better than AVP, AVPR, Alien 3 and Alien 4 I'll be happy. Actually if they can just make a film better than AVPR and Alien Ressurection that'd be a start!

No Scott

Will we have Sigourney?

Not interested, otherwise. I mean, obviously I'll see it (ALIEN is my favorite film of all time), but I'd prefer not to see it made if Ridley Scott isn't involved.

You'll generally find split opinions amongst fans about the third film. Personally, I like it, but it does have numerous flaws. First things first the film is unfinished. Director David Fincher walked out during post-production and Fox cobbled together the Theatrical version, which is a hacked-to-shreds mess of a film with rushed special effects and numerous plot/logic holes. A few years ago, a Special Edition was released on DVD that restored much of the original footage. It's with this version that you begin to get an idea as to what Fincher was trying to accomplish with the film. It's still unfinished and a bit of a mess, but it's an interesting watch. The storyline itself might also put you off in terms of what they did to existing characters, plus there are times when it drags during long periods of dialogue. I'd say give it a go.

Resurrection on the other hand had a much 'cleaner' production period, but it felt more like a throw-away B-movie and not as epic in scope as the first three films. The decision to bring back a certain character when their story had gotten a pretty definative conclusion was also a bit of a stretch. You could certainly enjoy the film, but it's the weakest of the four Alien films in my opinion.

The two Predator movies have nothing to do with the Alien franchise.

If you've never watched Alien3 then I would advise watching the dvd release version rather than the cinematic release. It's a far better film which actually makes sense.

Unfortunately Predator 2 does as it features an alien head in the Predator's trophy cabinet...this led to the comics, games and eventually the films

Finally! I have been dying to know how Ellen Ripley first came to meet Jonesy the cat.
Whatever happened to Jonesy after Ripley died? I'd be interested in the official story or even fan fic surrounding the fate of Ripley's beloved cat.
Maybe even a future Aliens movie could shed some light.

Could be good if they handle it right. I want to see an origin story. Hasn't it been suggested/hinted that the Aliens are a result of genetic engineering gone wrong? That's what I'd like to see. They are created, break free, and a failing attempt is made to contain them.

I think it was the other way around and the skull was a homage to the comics pairing them up. I could be mistaken. Either way it did happen though that skull in the movie "canonized" the AVP universe into existence. I'd like to think the two AVP movies are not canonical because they weren't done with any thinking of making them good. AVP was okay, AVP2 was just wrong.

One of the many, many theories about them is that from the comics and books but it's been deliberately left unsaid where or how they came about.

Ok, can ANYONE come up with an "Alien" prequel plot that sounds remotely interesting? I've been giving it some serious thought, but I've got nothing... I suppose The Company knew that the warning signal was there, maybe an earlier vessel encountered it and no-one survived, so they sent The Nostromo, but it seems totally unnecessary.

Recast Weaver with some hot chic who gives us another "hot panty" scene at the end? Then I'm on board. For me, Alien was never about the Alien. It was about watching Weaver try to save her life while running around in her underwear..THAT was the best part of the movie...
