ALF reboot in development

I like "ALF", but a continuation in this day and age where everybody is racist and everything is racist except the hypocritical racists pointing the things out, how does the original Alf actor get this job after a video like this?

Did you even watch the video all the way to the end?

Yes, I have. Doesn't change anything. This is nearly the same level as Michael Richards "comedy" N-word rant.
I don't believe that you have watched the video all the way to the end. I think you just looked at the title and watched until the n-word part and assumed the rest, or else you'd know that the guy making the video points out that the ALF voiceover actor was reenacting a scene from LA Law where a defendant with Tourette's said the n-word multiple times. So he was defending the ALF actor from charges of racism which no one was seriously making, so it's nothing like the Michael Richards' situation at all, other than both involving the n-word. Just because some rando posted something on the internet doesn't instantly make it a huge issue every time.

Why you felt the need to grace us with this n-word spouting video about an issue that no one had raised in order to get in a little dig about how the people who call out racism are the REAL racists is beyond me. it was just a mundane thread about an ALF revival up until then.

I have posted on topic and in the boundary of the forum rules. I don't tailor my posts or take suggestions of what I should and shouldn't post on the suggestions of various users.

I am not the topic of this thread.

You posted something and then people have addressed the content of your post. That's how a discussion board works. Deal with it.

Exactly. And the poster's claims about what's in the video are contradicted by that same video. So, given that his or her post is self-contradictory, there's a genuine question regarding just what the poster is trying to say.

ALF was funnier when I was a kid. I watched a few episodes recently and it didn't generate much mirth.
In my opinion, Family Guy has used up any jokes an ALF reboot would need to be successful.

Actually you'll find that the people who get upset at their racism being pointed out are the actual racists, since they're the ones saying/doing/posting racist things. I'm not even sure why you would post that other than to get a reaction.

I was never a fan, but wasn't a good deal of the cuteness of the show the fact that Alf was a puppet? Not a weird uncanny valley CGI monster.
I can't see them doing ALF and not using a puppet.

I have to confess, I stopped right after the guy started talking, so I was offended until I saw your post. This really is a perfect example of how context can totally change a situation.

Okay, why can't the network create a new show that's been influenced by ALF instead of a cheap remake that more likely than not flop before six, thirteen, or two episodes had been aired? As we've seen for every other franchise, everyone tunes in for massaging their nostalgia but then dislike it afterward.

Imagine if ALF was a remake of "Mork & Mindy" instead of being semi-influenced by it, as if "Mork" was the first TV show to involve an alien living with humans to begin with...

ALF lasted four years. Started to sour after its second but was a total mess in its final year. It also ended with a very disturbing cliffhanger, which got resolved almost only a decade later and none of the Tanners or Ochmoneks were involved, thus cementing the TV movie's dismal failure.

One thing's for sure - given how the cast loathed the show and/or are dead, don't expect too many cameos for the addled studio audience to hoot and holler over. Yes, it'd be fun to see them as the show would not have worked on the big walking loofah brush on its own, as that TV movie clearly proved, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Honestly they could put anyone on and claim they were in the old show and no one would notice. Alf was the star, the rest of the cast were props.

Granted I don't remember much about Alf, just that I like him. I still have an Alf plush toy in good condition sitting in my closet.

I saw it as a child. ALF was the star because it was so different.

I checked it out again a few years ago as an adult and buying all four seasons on DVD (oh, the German release DVDs that were complete - almost no syndication cuts. Keep that in mind as the American releases have tons of footage chopped out in some cases.) I rewatched them over last winter as a binge marathon, it is unlikely my opinion will have changed much since then but in my next marathon that may or may not occur. But the human actors made the humor work. Max Wright needed to be the straight man to ALF because that's how the humor worked. Don't get me wrong, I still liked ALF as concept and execution and especially as character, sure, but the Tanners and Ochmoneks are by no means anything approaching "props". Or at least the actors, who saw enough of something special to make the show. "Project ALF" failed because ALF didn't work as his own entity and there were plenty of props in that movie.

All I know is that he better eat the fucking cat this time.
Hope he leaves the seal alone
