Alas, my PS3 is no more!

It's survived international cargo shipping five times (once without padding!) and literally hundreds of electrical power spikes, however, last week we got a new generator that might have been running a little high, the PS3's power supply stood no chance.

The spike knocked out my PC, surge protectors, stabiliser and UPS's as well as the PS3. I took it to the local Sony Service Center but was told I'd have to take it abroad (i.e. the US) to get it fixed as they weren't certified and didn't have PS3 parts. I'm trying to decide whether or not to risk giving it to a local electrician to try and fix, or wait till I'm the US again in January to get another one or send it in for fixing.

Now my only gaming device is my (fixed-ish) PC and my trusty old PSP, I get scared every time I plug the PSP in to recharge it.

Can you try mailing it to the US to get it fixed?

EDIT: Judging from your location, can you try having it mailed to Europe?

I could probably do that, but it would be suicide to send it using NIPOST (Nigerian Post office). I'd have to use FedEx or DHL, and that would end up costing more than a new PS3!
