Spoilers Alan Van Sprang officially joins Season 2 as...

Write him well, and it doesn't matter who "John Harrison" is. Write him badly (as they did), and it doesn't matter if they try to connect him to an iconic character like Khan, all it accomplishes is to diminish something people remember fondly.

It does?

You and I are completely different because watching Khan in ST ID is fun for me because I remember Montalban so well, and see little hints and such, while Cumberbatch forges ahead with the character and makes it his own.

I struggle to understand why such a performance diminishes another's. Montalban has his performance, and Cumberbatch has his own. I'm ok with both

I think Benedict Cumberbatch is amazing. He has tremendous range and charisma, and I enjoy anything he acts in, almost without exception.

Sadly, STID is one of the exceptions. It's not his fault; it's the story that's a pale retread of what we remember about Khan.

Respectfully, I will disagree. I cannot agree with the term "retread" with regards to STID and TWOK.

Loved the writing and performance of Khan in STID. Khan was much better written there than in TWOK. I could actually believe the Khan in STID was the same guy as in "Space Seed". TWOK, not so much.

Indeed. Knowing that story fills in many of the nuances within Khan's behavior in STID.

Well then thankfully they wrote him well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Indeed. With the exception of the engine room scene with the roles reversed, it's an almost entirely new story. One that, imho, falls apart about 3/4 of the way through, but definitely not a retread of Space Seed or TWOK.

Well, the guy in STiD was basically the same guy from Space Seed. The guy in TWOK was the guy from Space Seed after going crazy from 15 years of hellish living. Why would he be identical?

I'm not saying they were identical, just that I could believe they were the same person.
