In a weird way Picard has become a kind of an anthology. Season one is very different from season two, from Michael’s vision to Akiva’s deep dive into deconstructing Captain Picard. And season three is different from from those two… All of them though with the focus of Picard now dealing with some emotional aspect of his life. That’s important.

I was wrong. PIC Season 3 won't be a TNG Movie. It'll be a TOS Movie starring the TNG Cast. That's a good thing. That's what I wanted in the '90s, but I"ll take it now. Better late than never.

But I agree. PIC is the anthology. It's not the one that I thought would be an anthology, but at least it shows the different things they can do with this series. I thought it would be three seasons in just PIC Season 1 style. Which I would've liked, but it wouldn't have shown as much range as what we've gotten instead, when you put it all together.

It's something closer to Marvel's one-season wonders (WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, etc.)

Me too. More than the other Star Trek shows, Picard feels like two novels that can either be enjoyed separately or together. I expect and want more of the same from Season 3.

I'm not sure I would call this an anthology.

It seems to match how most shows did serialization on networks. 24, Heroes, Agents of Shield... same characters, just independent season long arcs that didn't have a strong connection between them.

This is true, but I feel like replacing most of the cast for Season 3 will make this seem less like PIC Season 3 and more like the long-delayed TNG Season 8 made "under new management."

I think just like with DSC, PIC left a fork in the road. From DSC Season 2, you could go to DSC S3, SNW, or an S31 series. From PIC Season 2, you could go to PIC S3, a new 25th Century spin-off, or an Assignment: Earth type series in the 21st Century.

With both PIC Season 2 and DSC Season 2, they set it up so they have options.
