Aimed high...but shot low

I actually liked the look of Dick Tracy... as opposed to nearly everything else about it lol. The villains were cool-looking but the leads were useless.

The Matrix sequels, big time. Anyone else remember the hype and the build-up to those? The Matrix was still considered cool. Now, I've got to defend my love of the superior first film, like it was some kind of guilty pleasure.

I loved bits and pieces of King Kong. Naomi Watts was utterly perfect casting. Jack Black was not. A lot of the Skull Island part was very good, and the little homages to the original were appreciated. The fight with three V-rexes falling thru the vines was ridiculous. The bugs at the bottom of the crevass was over the top disgusting. The casmosaurus stampede was fun but too silly. I pretty much loved the rest.

Highlander

Wow, Highlander?

I would think that was a case of "Aim Low, Accidentally Ricochet Off the Floor and Bounce High".

If you're aiming for "crappy quickie B movie" and you end up creating a cult classic with a lot of film-making joy clearly visible in it on the screen and start a franchise that covers a couple of sequels and a TV show [all bad, but still in existence] did you really shoot lower than your aim?

Highlander (1) was a completely wonderful movie. It's the sequels that all blow great big donkey chunks. I never got all the way thru 2 & 3 on cable, and I'm deeply annoyed that I paid money for 4.
