AICN reports on Actual Trek XI Footage

Awesome! I am so jealous of this guy. I'm especially intrigued about the scene on Vulcan. I wonder what the context will be for showing that? I think I'm more excited to see how Vulcan is going to be depicted in the movie than I am the Enterprise.

I very much like what he's saying about the overall look of the film, especially the uniforms and sets -- it looks like TOS, but "real."

I know that his comments were completely divorced from context, but I'm not loving the description of a sequence that apparently (as I read it) has the entire TOS bridge crew together at the Academy, all running to get to their ships -- and, what, going to visit Pike on the bridge of the Enterprise? If that's an accurate description of what's going on, it's way too "Young Sherlock Holmes" for me. But, of course, we'll see.

My biggest reaction to this report is: hey, there really is a Trek movie being made out there!

Wow. That all sounds really exciting. :D I want to see that space FX shot that looks so different from anyhting we've seen before....

[The Bridge] echoes that classic Trek look – but imagine if you handed that design to the folks at APPLE and said… Make it really work. I instantly believed in the functionality of everything. That’s hard to quantify, but it is true. Remember when you saw the war room underground on Hoth in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK? How it just felt functional – that’s what this looked. And it looked Star Trek, without looking as cheap as Star Trek. It was a tech-fetishists wet dream.
Niiiiccce. :D

Balls.

I wish i'd not read that really. I know it doesn't really give much away, but I'm suprised JJ let knowles let that shit leak out...

I'm so screwed if we get some really bad spoilers. These scenes that were described are pretty mild spoiler-wise and have no context whatsoever, but I worry that if/when some REALLY juicy spoilers get out there, that I'm going to not be able to resist at all!

I wonder if that weird "no new material at ComicCon" thing today finally shook some info loose. I'll be interested to see if anyone else has anything to release....

Sounds really cool. We seem to get a description of the USS Kelvin, too - saucer with over and under dual nacelles and a shadowy, diesel-sub interior. Could be nice, could be...

Never heard of it. Please elaborate.
It was a movie era appearance design called Akula created for a game.

Essentially, a saucer with one nacelle above and one nacelle below; both on centerline. This sounds exactly like the description given in the article.

I believe Vance has a schematic of it somewhere.

"...on the bridge, under the command of Captain Pike. Sulu was at the helm – and the bridge. And the uniforms… Classic Trek. Nice. Then for the first time in the history of Star Trek, it looked amazingly functional. It echoes that classic Trek look – but imagine if you handed that design to the folks at APPLE and said… Make it really work. I instantly believed in the functionality of everything."

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

I'm guesing the Starfleet ship they describe is the USS Kelvin, commanded by the bad-ass Arab captain. Based on the description there, I'm imagining a more primitive version of the Stargazer.

And did I read this article correct? Did they say the entire TOS cast is going to be on the Enterprsie bridge with Pike in command? There's a continuity can of worms.

THIS MOVIE WILL RAPE MY CHILDHOOD! :(

Right, now that nonsense is out of the way - couple of points -

sounds like Kirk is a stowaway on the ship (maybe not even the enterprise?) as it looks out he's out of favour from his KM tricks.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say we don't see Captain Kirk - my guess is that it ends with him redeeming himself and saying "One day this ship will be mine" or something like, thus creating expectation for the sequel.

Maybe my imagination is a little overactive from an extra cup of coffee this morning, but here's what I read into the AICN report:
-- The incident on board the Farragut that propelled Kirk to captain has been reimagined and takes place on board the Enterprise. In the mists of my mind, I remember reading some time back that Abrams said that not all the familiar characters make it through the movie. Back at that time I thought he meant Pike. Of course, I may be putting two and two together and getting five.
-- Oh, and apparently this movie will be visually stunning. Even if the shuttles are dirty.
