Ahhh! Help! Malware is attacking my computer!

What's his face

Rear Admiral
My computer has been infected with some kind of malware which causes an Internet Explorer window to open up every few minutes, taking me to some spam site.

I've scanned and repaired the computer using both AdAware and SpyBoth Search & Destroy, and both are up to date, but what happens is even after this, the malware comes back and it's as if I did nothing.

What do I do? What program should I download? Please help :(

Well, the first thing I'd try is making sure AdAware and SpyBot have up-to-date definitions. Then I'd manually delete all the files in the Temporary Internet Folder. Then I'd do some Googling to see if I could find any information on that Spam site to see if there are fixes out there; there might be something at the McAfee site.

Also, you might want to Post this in the Web Sites Forum; the regulars in there might have a better idea of what to do.

Yeah, definitely try the Science & Technology or Websites Forums. :rommie:

Fixed it! No thanks to you guys :p
I unplugged it from the internet, scanned & deleted the malware, then deleted the file in my Temp directory. Then scanned again and now it's fixed.

The problem before was that I didn't delete the file in the Temp directory. That's what allowed the malware to re-appear, even after I cleaned my computer.

Happened to me last year. Fookin annoying as hell. Got it sorted in the end, but I nearly smashed my computer to bits in annoyance at times

Ahem.

Deleting the files is a very important step to prevent that which you've scanned and repaired from happening again. That's why they recommend backing-up or setting up a restore point immediately after cleaning-up the computer and performing virus and spyware scans (as opposed to before, which would kind of defeat the purpose).

disable the scripts, it stops the hijacks. Although when I disable scripts I have a problem accessing the trek bbs smiles since it prevents my browser from opening pop up windows
