Aha moments

Have you ever talked with someone that made you see an episode or part of an episode in a new way? Or gave you some insight you never thought of before?

I was recently rewatching The Thaw and we started talking about it, and why the clown picked Harry to stay over Belanna. Something was said that i never made the connection with before. The clown was hooked into their brains, could essentially read their thoughts and knew about them. He picked Harry because it was easier for him. Right off the bat Belanna is not intimidated by him. The clown knew harry would be easier to scare into control.

Awww, I thought this thread was gonna be about how the 'Sun Always Shines on TV'.
:nyah:

But seriously, in response to the question: Sure, of course; film viewing/discussion with friends can often be very enlightening & an enjoyable part of the entire experience! :)

That's why i love discussing shows and movies with people.

Someone on this very board, nearly a decade ago, convinced me that .... In Endgame, the reason future Janeway chose that time to intervene is it was the earliest moment when present Janeway would go along with it. That it is as the events of several episodes preceding Endgame that made Janeway receptive to the idea that a shortcut home was worth compromising a few principles.

I think it had to be a point where they had accepted the fact that there was no magic wormhole and no quick shortcuts. It was also after loosing crewmembers and facing lots of dangers.

Now that you mention it, Future Janeway could have gone to False Profits planet and dealt with the Ferengi before Voyager got there and sent them home with a lot less drama.

Or just went to the Caretaker and agreed to destroy the array after sending them home.

But I guess if you save them before Scorpion Seven is never saved and 8472 destroys all life in the galaxy. And before YoH dozens of civilizations are wiped from existence. Not to mention all the Borg intel they sent home.

You need to find a balance where all the universe altering things still happen but as few crew die as possible.

She had to go back to when Belanna was already pregnant since Miral was critical to getting the technology from the Klingons.

<After they return to the Alpha quadrant early>

"Oh, one final thing. To preserve this timeline, you and Tom must get together and have a baby around that-and-that stardate, Lieutenants! That's an order!" ;)

I can remember in Before and After having an aha moment. When I saw Chakotay as Captain it hit me that he was a back up in case Janeway, as the first female Captain, failed. I was not privy to the behind the scenes drama Mulgrew has since disclosed. It never dawned on me a female Captain would be an issue but in that moment I could see the back up plan in waiting. I was shocked.

I recently heard in a podcast that they were holding casting of chakotay until casting if the captain was complete. They were trying for a woman but if they couldn't find anyone the captain would have been a man and the first officer would have been a woman

Really? Glad we got the reverse. It was more ground breaking though I could have lived with Chakotay as Captain if it came down to it.

I think @catshadowsi8 and I had a couple aha's but I don't remember now. That's so typical of me

For me a lot came from hearing about the back stage conflicts and shenanigans with the upper brass, the writers and some actors. For example I had no idea Picardo would rewrite his lines but not clear it before taping began. Surprised but explains why his character changed like he did.

Stuff like that I found out joining this board. It filled in some blanks for me.

Shame that they couldn't have used the Bujold scenes in a way similar to The Menagerie on TOS! And no I haven't any ideas myself either...
