Spoilers Ah, the NEW uniforms...!

It made sense to me that the TNG-onwards combadges should incorporate monitoring and transponder/location beacon as well as translator and communicator.

I guess we'll find out over time but I assume the new badges come with a whole bunch of tricks!

3x05 -- a few more details on some of the other new uniform variants:

Lieutenant Willa has full coloured chest, shoulder yoke and sleeves and collar; the two others with her have just the central chest section in dark teal (?) but the shoulders, sleeves and collar are the same basic grey colour as the rest of the body.

All three have the same belt buckle and dark grey collar patch features and they all seem to have badges with gold delta on silver ellipse.

There's a bit of a TMP vibe to these costumes but I have no idea what the significance of any of this will turn out to be...!
Probably my favorite variant, next to the Admiral's uniform. The texturing reminds me of the
Relatively uniforms.

I want those uniforms in STO

I'm sure this will not be 100% correct, but it's a rough idea of what they're doing with these uniforms for now, until we get to see more details.

So watching the episode again, it looks like, that like in the TNG Era, only admirals have the dual rank neck insignia. Everyone else has it only on one side, or the centre.

i think they incorporate a portable transporter and the transporter room is no longer a thing. Would make sense, anyhow.

Indeed! (Although my comments were mainly referencing the concept that the functionality of the 'perscan' bio-monitors, which is what the 'belt buckles' on the TMP uniforms were supposed to be, had all been incorporated into the much smaller single but more capable unit of the combadge by the time of TNG.

Yes, by the 32nd Century, the badges clearly have even more clever tricks to them!

Works for me! :bolian:

(Although I'm guessing that they would need to re-fit / upgrade some of Discovery's systems in order to integrate that functionality. In fact, that's probably true for integration with multiple aspects of the 32nd Century Starfleet!)
The personal transporters we have seen don't seem linked to other tech but maybe planets and ships need hubs for them to work like as if they are tied into routers

I'm still consolidating all the information as there was so much to take in!

They have thrown a lot of effort at this: episode 3x05, "Die Trying" probably has more individual different Starfleet uniform variants in one single production than has been seen since The Motion Picture...!

Lots of different variations from formal officer uniforms to working utility uniforms and specialist uniforms for medics and security. It's gonna take a while (and a lot of freeze-frame!) to process this lot! :D

By the looks of the trailer, there's more detail yet to come in 3x06 too...! :bolian:

Plus, almost every Holo seems to have their own personalized variant. See Eli and his bow tie.

The Scavengers sneak peek shows us the captain uniform and insignia.
It baffled me at first because I thought those insignia are an admiral's.
Speaking of the sneak peek here it is:

I like the two piece uniforms. I think the one-piece jumpsuits look (once again) like pajamas. No thanks on that. It will be interesting to see if the Discovery crew end up in these by the end of the season. What do you all think?

I think it'll be like with the second half of VOY, where they knew about the FC Uniforms but stuck with the old ones.

At least that's what I'm hoping...

It would seem that the uniform with the coloured stripe down the right front is a formal duty uniform, broadly equivalent to the TNG mandarin collar uniform, with the other uniforms effectively being utility uniforms, more like the original DS9 variant.

Yes, the Captain insignia are somewhat confusing. It does look a bit too much lower or the flag officer indignia. I can understand the four pips on the collar patch OR the TMP-style shoulder straps but using both seems a bit over the top but, arguably, neither are really necessary given the pips on the badge.

It also seems a bit inconsistent to use the very angular diamond shapes on the collar and shoulders but the semi-elliptical pips on the badges. Anyway, whatever, this Starfleet certainly seems to like redundant additional insignia...! (although it seems odd and ,again, inconsistent that lower ranks seem to have neither the collar patch pips nor the shoulder straps on their versions of the same pattern as of uniform).

I guess the further implication is that other flag officers would therefore wear the same uniform as Vance, but with lesser numbers of pips on collar patches and epaulettes.

I’ll finish doing some drawings shortly.
