Agents of SHIELD First Time Viewing

Ack, turns out it's NOT on Disney+ yet, I thought all Marvel was there. But it IS on Amazon Prime, I just have to pay $2 per episode, so it would cost me $12 for the six episodes not on Hulu.

I'm wondering how they're going to address the racism of the era. They're piling on the condescension toward women but haven't really touched on the racism yet, and with Mack walking around they'll have lots of chances.
Disney+ only does past seasons of non-original series. I just checked my Disney+ account and they have both season of Agent Carter.

This thing where they have to ensure Hydra gets created to ensure SHIELD gets created is pretty weird. What do the Chronicons think would happen? I guess it might prevent the Avengers from ever forming.

Did something we're not aware of happen to May in the other dimension before she killed Izel or is she just confused and disoriented?

What happened in the other dimension was pretty traumatic. I mean for a time she was dead, if I recall.

It's seeming a lot like Idon is what got Patton Oswalt involved in SHIELD and into robotics, so trying to save the future caused the future.

But then in the destruction timeline, it must have happened some other way.

So 1955. If the writers were cool they would have gotten Michael J Fox just to walk through the background somewhere.

It's pretty simple: no Hydra in WWII = no Red Skull = no reason for Erskine to hand the super-soldier serum over to the SSR = No Captain America = the three founders of SHIELD (Howard Stark, Col. Phillips, & Peggy Carter) either never meet or at least don't go on to form SHIELD.

In this instance the Avengers are a lesser threat since they come about in a specific time, as a direct result of SHIELD's actions, whereas SHIELD itself is a constant presence for more than half a century.
Indeed, all but one of the Avengers can be eliminated before they become dangerous, and that very one of them is destined to be nice and vulnerable at a predetermined time and date. All they have to do is wait around in New Mexico on the right day and murder Thor to death before he gets to the hammer.

Yeah, but if neither SHIELD nor HYDRA forms, wouldn’t Earth be fine for a while then fall to one of many apocalypses prevented by the Avengers? Or is that what they’re going for?

This Noir theme is cool but seems a little of place for this show.

Funny they keep having to leave Inok behind.

Or, wait, is any of this going to come full circle to Coulson’s original death?

You know as much as we do at this point.

At this point, I don't think the Avengers factor into any of this, the Chronocoms are purely interested in destroying S.H.I.E.L.D..

I'm just trying to logically reconcile the information we have with the fact the Avengers exist. Since they were okay with both Hydra and Shield not existing, they must not care if Hydra wins. So if they're focusing entirely on Shield and ignoring the existence of the Avengers, the reasoning so far is seeming flimsy. Any logical scrutiny would suggest the absence of Avengers is a much bigger deal.

I'm now through episodes 5 and 6 so can switch to Hulu now.

The thing with Mack's parents also supports the divergent timeline thing, if his memories of them still exists, that time still happened, just not in this version of the timeline.

The fact they targeted Bruce Banner when he was 6 suggests messing with the Avengers is part of the plan.

I'm wondering where they're going with Deke and Mack being left behind. Where they ended up, where everyone else ended up, if we're starting to get toward modern enough times to see more familiar faces involved. And if this means Mack and Deke will have a period of some years to live normally in the past.

I also hope we get a satisfying explanation for why the Chronicons specifically needed Earth and couldn't just find some primordial planet.

If they end up in 1989 and interfere with a certain formative event of Daisy's, it could lead to interesting places.

I seem to recall posting about another time loop episode but can’t remember it.

This was a really good one but doesn’t dethrone Stargate’s Window of Opportunity as king of time loop episodes. The way Inok fights against them but then instantly sacrifices himself. Beautiful.

This thing about Daisy’s sister who killed herself and pre-tortured Ja Ying is cool.

Where is Fitz, what is the contract reason he is not here?

I guess no explanation for why Izel and Chronicons didn’t happen in the Kree timeline.

This is the weakest season so far. Besides the increased silliness level that doesn’t mesh with the show’s established style, the plotting has been uncharacteristically sloppy and they are ignoring all the established time travel rules of the universe.

I heard that he was filming a series in the UK and that is why we haven't seen him very much.

In terms of weakest season, I'm not sure where I would place Season 7. I do think it's been a little inconsistent and the lack of Fitz is a little annoying, but there have been quite a few episodes I really liked, such as the Time Jump episode (Directed by Henstridge) and the Film Noir episode. I really hope they stick the landing and give the series the send off it deserves.

One problem is also they seem to have two options. 1. Reset button. 2. Crew gets stuck in a timeline where entire show never happened. 3. They pull out a way to jump between divergent timelines.

Both 1 and 2 feel very unsatisfying, and 3 feels like a story hack.

This ßeason has been silly but fun... Definitely a way to end it, which I think was a lot of fun for the producers.

Sad it is ending...need to hurry up and write my blog post about my daughter's encounter with Chloe Bennet at 2016 c2e2

As far as the weakest season goes, I've only ever watched season 6 once. I tried doing a re-watch as soon as it dropped on Netflix but I just couldn't get into it. I recently found myself barreling through a rewatch of the entire series and I got through five seasons in less than a month, but after the first episode of season 6, I hit a brick wall with it. So, I guess I'm going to have to say season 6.

She seems like such a chill person to hang out with, based on interviews and convention coverage that I have seen. I hope it was a memorable experience for your daughter.

Without knowing the ending, I'd probably rank the seasons 2, 3, 5, 4, 1, 6, 7 so far.

And since I'm caught up, time to retire this thread. There are no more spoilers in the main Shield thread.

Hey, what's up with science fiction shows and seven seasons? Three Treks, Buffy, SHIELD. Why seven?
