Age of your earliest confirmed memory

What is the age of your first confirmed memory?

I remember being at the hospital when my brother was born, which happened when I was three. I vaguely remember starting pre-school, which was when I was three. I also remember my mother and I visiting my father at the college campus (he worked and went to school at the same time), and he graduated when I was three.

I can remember my parent's wedding (yes, I was born before they married). And that happened before I turned 2 years old. So my earliest memory goes back to about 3 months before I turned 2.

1 year, 9 months - My sister's birthday party in the old apartment before my family moved into our first house the following summer. I remember taking a picture with my sister and brother in front of the fireplace, first on a chair, then with my stuffed dog. I remember standing in the hearth looking out, then walking into our dining room afterwards.

My earliest memory is of being annoyed that I could not talk. I wanted more of whatever I was drinking, but couldn't tell my mom that, so, I remember thinking "maybe If I just give her the bottle, she'll understand what I want". So, I threw it as hard as I could. I also remember being disapointed that it hit the floor almost immediatley, but it rolled into the kitchen, and mom picked it up.

Many years later, I reminded her of the incident and she said, "you remember that? You were barely four months old!".

I remember, just after my youngest brother was born, taking a ride to the hospital to bring him and my mother home. I was four years old plus a little short of two months, and we were still using the old family car; since there were now four of us kids, we'd get a new station wagon a few months later.

Any memories from earlier than that are hard to pin down with any certainty, but this one's solid.

^ And that right there is my first time, and probably everyone else's first time, ever reading a first-hand recollection of infant psychology.

I think I'm gonna win.

I have a very clear recollection of my dad changing my nappy (diaper for you Yanks), and me piddling in his face. I recall him making a comment about how he'd already had a shower.

When I told my mum about this, she said I was about six weeks old at the time. I also remember thinking it was very funny and I kept trying to do it all the other times anyone changed my nappy, but I never had a full bladder again at the appropriate time.

I'd imagine you did that more than once?

I was about 2 1/2 when we moved into a new house. I remember asking my Mother why she was crying and she said it was because she was so happy to have her own house. My Mother has confirmed this for me.

One I have which is unconfirmed is of sitting on a couch with my Dad watching a cartoon. The shot I remember is of an aerial shot of a herd of horses. I would have been about 2.

BTW, upon reflection, an earlier memory is my younger brother getting born. I see this as quite a trend here. Apparently birth of siblings is something that sticks in people's minds.

Not mine, apparently. I have two younger siblings, and I have no memory of them before they were in elementary school.

My early memory sucks. I must have had a traumatic childhood or something. I've blocked everything out!

^My sister is the same way. She's two years older than me and she is constantly amazed at the stuff I remember from childhood.

Actually, one thing I do remember from childhood was a solar eclipse. I'm not sure how old I was, exactly (it was some time before 1994 because we were living in our first house). We were going to go to Chuck E Cheese, but my mom wouldn't let us leave the house until the eclipse was over. :p I remember my neighborhood looking very orange.

The earliest confirmed memory I have is when I was 18 months old. It was the day that we got our new cat. I can still remember it vividly! I have other memories that must be from around the same time of random things. But, we know specifically the date that we got that cat.

I rather doubt you can understand English at 6 weeks. There's no way you'd know what he said.

Another sibling birth memory here, about 18 months or old.

I recall being home with my dad, and the riding to the hospital with my uncles.

Another memory around the same time involved an auto accident that my parenst witnessed and stopped to help out with. There were some injuries and they had to stop at the police department afterwards.

I recently spoke to my parents about this one, we were all visiting and a similar conversation to this was going around. I described the details I could remember and they were shocked that I could recall that much. Apparently, it was violent collision and they witnessed the whole thing, plus some of the injured were kids, so the memories were pretty clear for them.

It's an interesting thing, memory and the emotional strength vs the ability to recollect.

Yeah...claiming to have any memory from this age is extremely suspect as it is, but claiming to comprend any language (metaphorical language, no less), and claiming to have the ability to plan in this way at 6 weeks is just ridiculous. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to extraordinary claims on the internet, but even a basic understanding of brain development shows that these claims are false. If Tiberius indeed has these memories they are certainly artificial.

My mom always claimed that I did it alot. She thought it was funny. I just remember that one time. What strikes me as weird is that not only do I remember doing it, but also what went through my mind which made me do it in the first place.
