IF Damar had survived the war and had to have to look at what had become of Cardassia, had to face even deeper his own guilt/ the mistakes he once did (Ziyal, believing in Dukat ...), had to let it truly get to him, that 800 billion Cardassians died and many more of his now allies and that his family and probably everybody he in one way or the other cared about died as well (he said in one episode that everyone he knew is either dead or in prison, and I guess that the Jem´Hadar eleminated the prisoners quickly, when they started trying to eleminate all Cardassians)... and his only "friends" left are Garak and Kira, but if thats truly friendship is discussable (you think they are?), because of Ziyals death still standing unspoke between them, would he because of the way he matured with his rebellion and his "hero-status" be strong enough to be the decent leader, that builds up Cardassia again or would he be overwelmed by all the pain and fall back into drinking for numbing that pain and maybe even developing something like a posttraumatic stress disorder?
I personally find it seems quite a lot for someone to take and stay sane. I just had to see a friend go from sane to insane within a few weeks, ending being exmatriculated from university and being brought into a closed psychiatry... its quite shocking really, such an intelligent, high potential and actually quite mature person..and there were no such heavy traumata involved.
What do you think?

No one has an opinion on this? Here my questions again in short:

Did Garak, Kira and Damar became friends during the rebellion and would have stayed friends...or were they merely working together (also in the end)?

Would Damar stay strong in the time after the war (had he survived) or would he break down when finally having time to realize everything thats happend?

Damar would have been a hero to the cardassian people. He also had a bit of an ego and would have lapped up that hero stuff.
I think the federation alliance would push for him to step down from power and do some deal were he would still remain a figurehead to the cardassian people.
Pretty easy to see the Bajorans wouldn't want to work with him.

I'm sure any chance he could get some revenge against the Dominion he would take it.

One thing I'm sure is that Damar would make an awful politician, because he's just not cut out for that. If he decided to remain the ruler of Cardassia - which I don't think he ever wanted, anyway - he'd probably end up as one of those people who spoil their reputation as a war hero through their failures during the time of peace.

The wisest thing would be to re-establish a civilian government, which seems right, anyway.

What Bajorans? Bajor would have diplomatic relations with Cardassia regardless of who's in positions of power (unless they announced that they wanted to annex Bajor or something like that), it's a matter of politics ans realism. They had diplomatic relations since they reached the treaty, even though the majority of Central Command were, no doubt, the same as during the Occupation of Bajor. And we don't even know if Damar had any significant role in the Occupation. Probably not, considering his rank.

So...how would he have failed in peace-times?

And...were they friends/ would they have stayed friends (G/K/D)?
Somehow I think I could imagine Garak and Damar staying in contact, friends even, as they both lost everything. For KIra however..hmm..well she did seem somewhat sad, when she told Sisko Damar had died. But if he had lived... I think Ziyals murder would have come up sooner or later.

Damar's sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The storming of the dominion facility would not have worked if not for his bravery.

He's a martyr.

Kira still hated his guts for killing Zial. That would never have changed.

Garak would have stayed on Cardassia but the once proud world was in ruins.

Through out Human history, its not just the leaders who have been charged with war crimes.

I suppose even the Cardassians could complain about Kira having such a high rank and influence considering she was a terrorist and most probably killed cardassian civilians

I think that's too simplitic. I never liked the idea of his charachter dying but as I think about it it's probably better he did. He probably would have faced lot of hate. He was the main supporter of the dominion (to the public) for a long time. And even though he led the rebellion his rebellion cost Cardassia dearly. Living in the horrors isnt as clean cut as having an outside perspective.

I don't think that's true. She surely did in the beginning, but that changed during the time they spent together as members of the Cardassian resistance...especially after he saved her life on that Dominion ship.
