Affliction episodes

Just caught this two-parter on SyFy. Season ender and opener but I don't recall which seasons. Affliction was pretty solid, Phlox main story line, the virus w/ the Klingons, sub-plot with Malcolm, the Columbia, the transfer of Trip between both ships on the grappler, etc. All solid items on their own, but in this ep they all worked together. Solid story, seeing it again.

They were not season ender/openers. They were just two episodes in Season 4 which was the fanwank season in which we really had to have the whole ridges thing explained. Affliction though was pretty good. Divergence is an episode that seemed to cram too much for subjects that could have had their own episodes, like Section 31.

As a lifelong fan, seeing Enterprise invaded by smooth-headed Klingons was an awesome OMG moment. Archer growing ridges at the end and spazzing out tied to the chair was a bit much, and I wish Archer gotten rid of SuperSpy Malcolm instead of just forgiving him ("I've been a section 31 spy these last four years" "Just promise not to do it again and you can go back to work"), but the prize of most ridiculous scene in all of Enterprise had to be Trip's spacewalk at warp 5. That was so unbelievably stupid it's almost beyond words. Climbing up a cable at hundreds of times lightspeed? C'mon!

Very silly indeed, but I enjoyed the episodes.

I enjoyed them. They weren't deep or anything but they were fun even though I thought that they didn't really need to address the differences in the Klingons from TOS and those TMP and TNG. It wasn't necessary and a bit fanboyish but since I enjoyed the results I give 'em a pass.

But Malcolm wasn't actively working for Section 31 for those four years, he was pulled back into it during this episodes against his will.

I loved these episodes. It was different that anything we've seen before, and Klingons... :klingon::adore:
T'Pol - Hoshi mind meld was great, Klingon side of the story was very well, actors were great, well written.
It was a little bit too much when Archer was infected - but I couldn't resist it - loved it.

And Columbia&Enterprise fighting Klingons - magnificent, IMO one of the best scenes in ST.

Malcolm spy, Malcolm in brig, it was great, especially when Archer confronted him.
Trip travels between ships, warp field contact - beautiful.

agreed on there was so much going on, that it could have been a few episodes. A power packed ep with a lot going on though, is a nice change and freshens it up.

I give it four "Tpol Raised Eyebrows" ^^^^

In that season it wasn't much of a change. Seemed like every episode was an "action" episode that didn't really allow the characters to really shine through.

I agree that there were several awesome elements, but particularly in 'Divergence' it got quite messy. Trip's 'trip' (forgive me) from 'Columbia' to 'Enterprise' was ridiculous and a bit extreme. And we didn't need to have Archer writhing in pain turning into a Klingon.

I found Reed's Section 31 story interesting and engaging though and Keating got a rare opportunity to shine - I've read some posts that criticise him as an actor but I always thought he did a great job with what he was given. However, there could have been more done to wrap it up and a serious scene with Archer where they actually communicate instead of sulky silence and glares of doom would have been great.

agreed on the archer in the chair turning into a klingon - was that necessary? no, and campy for sure. a little over the top.

Affliction was one of the most beautifully shot episodes of the entire series. The shots outside the Chinese restaurant with Phlox and the shots of Hoshi and T'Pol just prior to the mindmeld and during the meld were pretty incredible. We also got our first glimpses of T'Pol's "white room".

As for Trip's ship to ship transfer in Divergence while in Columbia's warp bubble, I loved it. BTW, that's why it's called science-FICTION, folks.

The only part I didn't care for was Archer in the chair growing ridges. As a longtime fan (since 1969) of Star Trek; I have to dsagree with the poster who found Trip's spacewalk ridiculous. How else would one transfer a crewman? I actually liked that part as it did portray that this is a time of not so advanced technology.

And I agree that the shot of the 'TOS type' Klingon from the ENT sickbay was a 'geek out' moment for me too.

I watched this 2 parter earlier and I love it though it does try to maybe sneak in a little bit too much but am sure Section 31 was put in the episodes to lay a marker down for future use in stories if they had gotten a 5th season.

I don't mind the whole Archer bit because it must bloody hurt having ridges form in your head . It would of seemed odd to inject the Captain with a deadly retro virus and have him sit there comfortable.
