Adult Tricycle

Anyone here know anything about adult tricycles?

See, I've never ridden a bicycle, and I also have balance issues. I know I need something to get more exercise, and I've always heard the benefits of cycling.

So key points I'm looking for are 1)affordability, 2) utility, 3)and not making me look completely stupid.

So any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I actually saw a dude riding an adult tricycle down a street in Baltimore last week. As far as I could see it was basically a scaled-up version of a kid's tricycle; it was probably a custom job. It was yellow.

It kinda made him look completely stupid though, but as a hipster, that was probably what he was going for.

Well, I guess it's ok if you really can't ride a bicycle, but I bet it weighs a ton which will make it difficult to get up hills (it also only has one gear I think) and I'm sceptical how comfortable it is since the seat doesn't really seem to have much lateral support.
On the plus side - it's very cheap and extremely simple mechanically so it should be pretty indestructible and I guess it's good exercise in any case.
