Admittedly cool DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL 5 min trailer

I'm still incredibly skeptical, being part of the "if it 'aint broke ... " camp, particularly when it comes to a film of the quality of DTESS.

But there's some cool stuff in this new trailer:

One thing that's tearing at me:

I could watch Kathy Bates on screen all day ...

But I *cannot stand* Keanu Reeves.

What to do?

One thing immediately obvious: the film will be VERY different than the original.

His best role since "The Matrix"? Based on the five minutes or so we've seen, I'm somewhat hopeful.

I like Keanu but only when he's used in certain ways.

I really like the eerie tone they seem to be going for with this movie. Keanu's version of Klaatu definitely seems a lot more alien and distant than the previous version, but it still seems to work.

I really enjoyed the original and looking forward to this film. I'm sure the SFX will be spectacular as will the battle(s) with Gort. I just hope it's not too preachy. Based off the trailer it sounds like this film will be about man's destruction of the environment. Not that I think the theme is bad. Protection of the environment far more relevant today than war and nuclear weapons. I just hope they don't go overboard.

It's looking like a decent enough film from that extended trailer. I'm a huge fan of the original so I can't help but be skeptical. Still, they're stealing from the best, so there is hope, and Keannu's wooden-block style of acting seems to work quite well in this version.

I like it; much darker than the 1951 original, but that goes without saying. Curious if the motivation is the same or has changed.....

I think Keanu is a very good actor WHEN used in the appropriate roles, Matrix being the most obvious, but I liked what I saw with him quite a bit with this trailer...

CGI looks excellent except GORT - they need to fix him immediately.

Yeah, Gort looked really dodgy - hopefully that's temp CGI, because he looked horribly plastic.

For me, it's Gort vs. military action and Jennifer Connelly.

BSG fans, look for Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol) in the film.

I've been quite skeptical of this project - it seemed to me that the movie is so much the product of the Cold War era it would be extremely difficult to update for modern audiences.

But I have to admit, the trailer looks pretty cool.

And that's the only way to try remaking something that was great the first time around. Let's hope AMC remembers this with their Prisoner remake.

I don't mind Keanu for certain roles, and this looks like the perfect role for him.
