Admiral Barnett

Jon1701

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I think that's his name.

Man, that guy is dull. So dull I want to smash my DVD player to bits. Totally miscast.

"With our primary fleet engaged in the...zzzzzzz"

Sorry, I've stopped listening. I just can't picture this guy commanding a starship - let alone the starfleet (or the academy - its not really clear).

And the uniforms? Whats with those academy admiral uniforms? Heavy wool? Cadet uniforms and teachers uniforms - cool - I get them. But heavy grey wool - and no insignia? And the hats? Eh? :wtf:

The movie is great, but this scene grates. :(

Another poster described them as 'potato sacks'. I agree completely. If the movie follows standard military regulations, then all admiralty would have the same class of uniform at the same function... which means either they all dress in Pike's style uniform or Pike wears theirs.
M'Sharak or someone gave the excuse that perhaps the potato sacks were similar to collegiate robes, but those are used for commencement ceremonies rather than a disciplinary hearing.

Wow, this is the second thread in one week about this guy. What the hell is so special that we've decided to choose now as the time to complain about him?

Have we just run out of other things in the movie to discuss?

So maybe they are the equivalent of judge's robes.

I do remember two or three reviews of the movie that said Tyler Perry did not give a very good (or believable) performance as the head of the Academy (in otherwise positive reviews).
An actor shouldn't blame the character, but maybe it wasn't his fault, and Barnett just happens to be the anti-Robau.

Here's the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Vice Admiral Jeffrey L. Fowler. I can't tell just by looking at him whether he seems believable or not. What do you think? He looks pretty friendly.

Now that he's confirmed that the Kelvin is named after his grandfather, whats the betting that his grandfather was born May, 1914...;)

That still wouldn't explain the zero.

:guffaw:

I didn't know who Admiral Barnett was until someone said "Admiral Madea"(like that name by the way!) :guffaw: Anyhow, the guy was a little..dull..to say the least, but I thought it was cool that they brought Tyler Perry in for a Trek movie(I at first found it curious and fascinating) to begin with. He's a brilliant actor, but I'm not for sure if he's good at drama or not. I love him in his Madea movies. :)
