A little exercise in hypotheticals. Let's say that you can change history and add exactly one full season to any Star Trek series, without it affecting any of the future Trek productions (e.g. if you add a season to TOS, all the rest of the series will occur exactly as they have). Which would you choose?

Here are a few rules: the season will feature essentially the same cast as the last season of the series; there will be no major additions or subtractions to the cast - with the exception of characters who arguably would no longer be involved (such as, say, Trip in Enterprise). I guess I'll leave it up to you to decide what impact the last season finales would have on the following season.

The existence of this season in no way affects anything else Trek, before or after, including movies, and will not lead to any other "new" seasons. This is just a free bonus year.

A few thoughts:

- Considering TOS Season 3 compared to 1 and 2, what would a Season 4 look like?
- Did TNG go out on top, was it declining, or could it have had another great season?
- How would the format of DS9 changed (or not changed) considering the major events that befall the characters at the end of Season 7?
- What might a season of Voyager in the Alpha Quadrant look like?
- Enterprise Season 5 - could it have continued the improvement in quality that the last two seasons had over the first two (in my opinion at least)? Also, it Would mean that TATV would no longer be the final episode of televised Trek to this moment.

I would have held off breaking up the cast, and instead saved that for the finale of DS9, which had a lot of juicy stuff left to work with.

I've heard that Enterprise was getting better as it got older, but I've never seen enough of the last season to have an opinion either way.

DS9, TNG and VOY were finished imo, another season would have felt forced for these shows imo. So it's either TOS or ENT for me, and since ENT was crap I say TOS.

even if the voyages was taken seriously it is set several years in the future so yes tucker could still be part of the fifth season.

if they could have gotten a lot of the people who had left tos back for a fourth season (say gene coon) yeah but considering how well the fourth season went and knowing a bit about the storylines they wanted to do for the fifth season i have to say enterprise.

Enterprise the way it was going ... adding a season to Ent would have been more important than to any of the others in my mind. There was so much good stuff to come .

DS9 - I wouldnt want to change the ending
Voy - Im scared about what they might have done with another season
TNG - Prob would have just got more of the same
TOS - Maybe .. could have got a better finish

Enterprise, definitely. I heard what Manny Coto was thinking about for season five.

I would, however, give TOS one more episode and tell them it's their last one so they could give the show a proper send-off.

After seeing the suggested storylines that would have been part of Enterprise Season 5 I would have to go with that one.

Enterprise first 2 seasons were terrible but season 3 and 4 were among the best seasons of any star trek in my opinion. With the exception of the season four finale that episode was an insult to the fans. Anyway in season 5 they could have focused on the first romulan earth war and the beginning of the federation.

Enterprise--even though season 4 was the worst, perhaps the writers might use the characters more effectively in and among the fanwank.

Put me down for another season of ENT -- maybe without Bakula, though. I just never saw him as much of a Commanding Officer. More like an Angry Daddy's Boy.

Has to be Enterprise. It was really on a roll the last two seasons. I wanted to see the Romulan war.

I voted for Enterprise too. I have to say I'm a bit heartened that the much-maligned series has lots of backers for a fifth season. To me, the first two seasons were among the worst seasons of any Trek, and the second two were among the best (personally, I loved S3 and think it ranks in the top 4 or 5 best Trek seasons of all time). I think another season would have given us some amazing episodes, a more satisfying (or at least less unsatisfying) series finale, and would have - in the long run at least - secured more admirers for Enterprise, which all said and done was still a great show despite its weaknesses.

TOS's third season was the weakest of the three, and I somehow don't think a fourth season would have magically gotten a lot better.

I love TNG (it's my nostalgic favorite) and I think I would have loved an eighth season, but I don't see it adding a lot to Star Trek as a whole.

I don't think another season of DS9 would have worked, even if I didn't find the finale 100% satisfying.

Voyager is a good choice, but all things being equal I think ENT had slightly more potential in a fifth season.
