I didn't miss that, but I guess let me say it another way: duh? I was looking for there to be something more, I suppose, as 'laser focus on past and refusing to move forward = bad' isn't exactly a revelation, and doesn't require a movie to examine. Maybe the writer has his own daddy issues and just managed to scrape the money together for an expensive catharsis, but as a big budget movie, I expected there to be something else there. Or at least some coherent storyline to tie it together or something.

All we got here is Brad Pitt feels better about his dad after a couple hours of random things, and to be honest we didn't even get the scenes that would show THAT journey. And there's the "payoff" that maybe he'll get back together with his wife or something, but she had probably less than 30 seconds of screen time, so that's firmly a 'who cares' anyway. It's possible he said her name at some point, but I can't remember it, and doesn't much matter anyway.

Just wasn't any payoff to the struggle, and the struggle itself was obvious and somewhat boring. Tried to dress it up with random action, but that didn't really connect or have much coherence. And since Pitt was playing such a cold fish anyway (people on screen actually commented about how dead he was inside and how nothing got his heart rate up), he didn't give you much to connect to, just a bland robot.

really disappointed in this one, it was missing the 'big reveal' where any of it mattered at the end.

I found it incredibly dull, even the supposedly exciting bits. Pitt was doing the closed off thing that Ryan Gosling did way better in First Man. Actually it isn't Pitt's fault. Gosling's acting did the talking, Pitt's acting wasn't allowed to do the talking. Instead we had his voice over telling us how he was feeling.

Felt like the plot drove character rather than the other way around. Apocalypse Now in space is a neat idea, but in Vietnam you had so much stuff that could happen during a journey up river, here they had to invent stuff- moon pirates, baboon attack etc. It all felt so forced and so emotionless. Like a checklist.

Wish I'd seen it in IMAX, at least then I'd have probably at least liked the cinematography.

Watched it last night. About 20 or 30 minutes in, my friend and I called it Apocalypse Now In Space. Movie was terrible, science and logic made no sense. Character arc was not remotely interesting.

Big disappointment.
