Actors/actresses that should just act...

Thespeckledkiwi

There are some actors and actresses that have been very successful moving from onscreen to behind the screen, writing scripts, directing, or even producing. And then there are some that aren't good at all.

My biggest is Will Ferrell. The guy is a funny and talented actor but the movies he has had a hand in have been pretty poor. His best work IMO has been when he has simply acted and not have anything to do with pre-or-post production. Another is Jack Black. His movies that he has hand a hand in have been...bad IMO.

Any others?

Shatner for one thing. Star Trek V is the ultimate lesson to never underestimate the difficult task of being a good director.

I don't find anything particularly funny or talented about Will Ferrell, but that's just me.

Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company seems to trot out the same crap over and over again, and is responsible for several movies that have Rob Schneider as the lead.

M. Night Shyamalan and Quentin Tarantino might want to stay behind the camera for a while instead of always getting in front of it. Shyamalan might also consider directing a movie he didn't write or write a movie he won't direct, since he seems to be struggling when he has too much power and is too close to the project.

I found him to be extremely great in Stranger than Fiction and pretty good in the Producers. He has also been a good voice actor in the Oblongs.

M. Night Shamalayn is another good choice. Happy Madison Production has had several hit or miss movies.

Well Will Smith has much more to offer then he does right now by shelling out a "I am Legend" or "Hancock"....By the way where has Adam Sandler and Owen Wilson disappeared....

What "non-acting" credits are you referring to? And I mean official credits, not rumored ones.

Just curious.

As for Sandler he's at his "best" (if you can ever call it that) when he neither writes nor produces. When someone else is in charge, he's occasionally even passable.

TG, Will Ferrell has been credited to the production of Anchorman and Talledega Nights, which I found were very weak. And now Step Brothers, which doesn't look good.

You mean as one of 10 producers? Sometimes the title is just part of the deal. As to whether they're actually hands on, that's another story entirely.

But essentially, I agree that this kind of thing can meet with mixed results.

Wait, he also wrote both movies as well. I think if some of these actors/actresses get their hands too much on the film and dictate it, it ruins it.

Not just you.
I don't the guy has a talented bone in his body and he basically plays the same Character in every one of his Un-funny movies.
