Action Comics #900 Discussion

I debated about posting at all but thought this historic land mark issue deserved at least a mention in here. Paul Cornell culminates his critically acclaimed first year arc with the return of Superman to Action Comics. Here is a preview of the issue, it's a 96 page giant with back up stories and contributions from several top writers and artists. Been really looking forward to it.

I suppose that it would be a good thing if you've been reading the past year to understand what Lex is but it probably doesn't matter much.

Given DC's occasionally questionable commercial decision-making, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried that in the future.

DiDido and Johns are sticklers for the Silver Age though and Action Comics one of few long standing traditions that this company has. They can't afford to do anything stupid and cancel it. If anything we'll just see a couple more irrelevant Supes titles. Action Comics has been considered the flagship of the character since Johns took it over.

This isn't really the discussion I was going for but I guess my expectations were too high? LOL.

I have the stack of Cornell's run sitting unread (which is pretty silly but sometimes I just get behind on my comic reading), but I've heard very good things about it. #900 is a cool landmark to read and I'm excited about it, despite being very slow to get around to it. Is it one of those combo issues where a new storyline starts as well?

Kinda. It supposedly finishes off Cornell's Lex storyline and is also a middle chapter of the "Reign of Doomsday" storyline. Apparently, there are other standalone stories in there as well.

Just read it! I enjoyed the Lex storyline, and it was a decent ending for it, but I wasn't crazy about the tie-in to Reign of Doomsday. I like Doomsday but this was such a waste of story. Every issue was literally "Doomsday shows up, beats up everybody, kidnaps a Return of Superman character". There was no reason for this to be a five part story. And now it's just going on more? Ugh.

Finished reading it and loved it. I agree that the Reign of Doomsday story is a waste of time. The finale of "The Black Ring" was pretty good. Everyone who doesn't get why the Superman films continue to use Lex should read this book. I loved most of the back up stories, my favorite of course was the Geoff Johns Legion one lol.

What was up with the Paul Dini story where
this elephant alien stood by and let an entire civilization die out when he could have saved them... and Superman
was okay with that?!

Which is why I find the Weisman version of Superman so OOC. He would never shun Superboy. Even if he found the boys creation to be an outrage, he would see the difference between Superboy and Cadmus.

So he should forgive Brainiac for wiping out all those civilizations? He should forgive Zod for trying to take over and destroy the Earth? Shouldn't he throwing this guy in Superjail?

He didn't wipe them out. They were going to be wiped out anyways. He just made sure they never knew that they were going to die the next day.
