Ace of Cakes Cancelled

Getting back to the “Ace of Cakes”, I rarely see them washing their hands, they have people walking around the cake prep areas that don’t work there and they usually don’t wear hair nets/hats. I wonder how much hair they’ve accidentally rolled out in their cake fondant.

That brings up a point that has been bothering me recently about Iron Chef. No one on that show ever wears any kind of hat/hair net/head covering.

They are supposed to be some of the so-called best chefs in the country. They should know better.

I worked in some very nice and some very not-so-nice restaurant kitchens during and after college, and in my experience, it's exceedingly rare to see a line cook wearing a hair net or gloves.

My point is wearing gloves isn't necessarily a good extra step, it's more of a waste of time.

You remind me of my cousin, she can't have her food touch, mash potatoes one side, and if a piece of corn touches it she throws a fit. And she's 21 or something.
Nahh, I’m not like that. I don’t mind if my food touches. :nyah:

I like that show too. They may not do so since they are cooking for such a small group of people. However, they may forgo wearing them so that they look good on TV.

I watch "Top Chef" too. I believe I saw one guy last season wear a hair net (during that baseball stadium food competition), but it is very rare.

True, but you care who touches it, so they are similar. :)

Shame for them, but they'll be ok. I walk past the building all the time; maybe they can finally remove the blackout plastic from the windows and not have to go to work in a creepy-ass looking building.

I've never really watched the show (not my thing), but I've always wondered, do people actually eat these cakes? Or would they consider that an insult? It's been my experience that the fancier the cake, the less edible/tasty it is.

Dunno about those fancy cakes, but the pub I go to for lunch sells regular Charm City Cakes cakes for dessert, and a friend of mine had one at her wedding. They're fucking amazing, especially the 10-layer red velvet. :bolian:

Well, at least I won't have to watch/listen to that bitchy pudgy red-haired woman with the headset talk.

Yes, I'ts been hinted several times over the past year that Duff has another show in the works and that he won't be a regular sight on the Food Network Channel after the final season of “Ace of Cakes”. It's a sad news for me because I really enjoyed watching him and the group of people there who obviously enjoy working with each other. I will miss this show a lot.:(

I wouldn't be surprised if Duff himself was trying to spin off into something else entirely. I do feel bad for whomever enjoys the program, but the few times I've watched it I did not find it that entertaining (and I watch FN a lot). I can see how others would enjoy it, it's just not my kind of show. I do like Duff as a TV personality however so I hope this means he's moving onto bigger things.

I only watched it when they did the cake for Lost's 100th episode. It's not the kind of show that makes for compelling watching. If they make a cake for something you like it's fine but when they don't you're like "Whay am I watching this crap?".
