AC/DC fires Brian Johnson?

I've been a long time AC/DC fan, got into them right around the time that Bon Scott died. Brian Johnson stepped in and they released Back In Black, their best selling album. I saw them 3 times in concert, most recently last month in Dallas. I was curious to see how the loss of Malcolm Young was going to affect their sound. Malcolm had to retire due to dementia and his nephew Stevie took over on rhythm guitar. Malcolm has always been underrated in my opinion. He was basically responsible for AC/DC'S sound and Angus was the flashy one who plays lead guitar and gets all the attention.

But I have to say, their Dallas show was great. The band sounded incredible. I sort of figured it was going to be the last time I saw them but not for the reason I thought.

Within a few weeks of the show, Brian Johnson went to the doctor who advised him to stop touring immediately or risk permanent hearing loss. Brian didn't think it was as bad as it sounded but contacted management and Angus to see what they could work out. The next day the band cancelled the remaining US tour dates due to Brian's hearing loss and said they would reschedule with a guest vocalist.

We haven't heard anything more officially from the band or Brian but what we are hearing through the grapevine sounds pretty cold blooded. Apparently Angus won't talk to Brian, Brian had all of his touring stuff shipped to his home and nobody is talking. The link at the top of this post gives more details and if it's true, makes me lose all respect for Angus. Brian brought them back from a tragedy, been loyal for 36 years and he's basically kicked to the curb? If he really can't tour anymore there's a lot of better ways the situation could have been handled. I guess Angus wasted no time in auditioning new singers and we should find out something soon. I think they are finished.

^That doesn't sound like a "firing," but concerned friends not wanting the man to permanently lose what's left of his hearing. I think the man retaining some of his faculties is far more important than a few tour dates. They did the right thing by telling him, "No more." Sometimes you have to save people from themselves, if you really care about them.

Yep, even legends age. And with age cometh its prices.
I hope this is not as laced with animus as it may sound.

I would like to think that the rumours of Brian being fired are untrue. But there has been no official denial by either him or Angus, AFAIK, which does make me wonder.

I've thought for some time that this would be their last tour anyway, what with Malcolm, being their main songwriter, now out of action, and their ages. I initially assumed that they wanted to complete the tour for contractual and financial reasons and then would call it a day. However, rumours also are alleging that they're auditioning little-known singers, rather than the usual suspect big names, as Angus wants to reinvigorate the band. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. It would be great to hear some new and dynamic AC/DC material but I do wonder if they can capture lightning in a bottle yet again.

Well, the problem is that as soon as Brian told Angus, he also said he don't think it's that bad and will get a second opinion, Angus never said anything to him, just sent his equipment from the tour home and then released the statement saying the tours were cancelled. Concerned friends don't shun you as soon as you give them some bad news and that's what it sounds like Angus is doing. He's not even speaking to Brian. I guess we'll see how this all plays out.

The Young family (there's more than just Angus) grip on DC is unbreakable and I've seen interviews where former members of the inner circle have intimated that it's not a very nice place if you fall out of favour. It could just be sour grapes, but this doesn't make them look very good..

Well if it's all over the Internet (and nowhere on AC/DC's official website) then it must be true.

You know, that's about the weakest reply anyone could ever make. According to you, all the stuff on the internet must be a lie. I thought it was a bizarre rumor so I posted it. You won't hear squat from AC/DC until they are ready to announce whoever is going to sing for them.

If it is true he has been fired, I like to think his greatest moment would be pissing on a statue of Sputnik at an airport in Moscow

Some news outlets are reporting that AC/DC's representatives have said that they "have nothing official to announce."

Generally, I think it must be very hard to replace a frontman. Even if the new guy's voice sounds the same, people would complain that the personality and style of performance aren't right. But if it's exactly the same, he would just be accused of being a copycat. :brickwall:

Do not believe and relay that kind of bullshit/clickbait news.

Read it and weep (I know I am!) :barf:

AC/DC'S ROCK OR BUST WORLD TOUR RESUMES WITH AXL ROSE ON VOCALS

"AC/DC band members would like to thank Brian Johnson for his contributions and dedication to the band throughout the years. We wish him all the best with his hearing issues and future ventures. As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian's decision to stop touring and save his hearing. We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment. AC/DC will resume their Rock Or Bust World Tour with Axl Rose joining on vocals. The European stadium tour dates begin on May 7 in Lisbon, Portugal and run through June 12 in Aarhus, Denmark as previously announced (see below for full itinerary). Following this European run of dates with AC/DC, Axl Rose will head out on his Guns N Roses, Not In This Lifetime Summer Stadium Tour. The 10 postponed U.S shows will be rescheduled and announced imminently, also with Axl Rose."
