Abramsverse vs NuTrek. It is time to settle on a title!

Let's call the old Trek simply "Rubbish". Then there's no mistake about which Trek you're talking about. :D

"Do you know why Rubbish Janeway always has her hair so strange?"
"Well, Rubbish Kirk didn't do that!"
"The special effects of Rubbish TOS will always be superior."

Works fine by me.

This is Trek XI, and the next will have its own title. As for the franchise subdivision, the official Memory Alpha term is the Alternate Reality, so I'd nominate Star Trek (alternate reality).

ST '09 or ST:TFB/TFB. The alternate title or subtitle for the film was The Future Begins, F.Y.I. It might help separate the franchise name from the specific film.
That was never really a subtitle, though.

"The Future Begins" was a tagline used on some of the posters, on the original January 2008 teaser(I think) and on the network promo announcing a sneak peek at the movie to be aired during an episode of Heroes (the promo got some discussion here at the time because of the network announcer's misread, which made it sound like the movie was called "Star Trek: The Future". Oops.)

AbramsVerse or JJVerse wouldn't apply forever, because someone else will take over the helm eventually. I sorta like the TNT suggestion above, but I've been using NuTrek along with everyone else so far.

Or everyone can go with calling them ST I-XI + whatever comes next in roman numerals with the shows abbreviated. Or just do ST '09, ST XI or TFB (if you have to have a unique abbreviation separate from ST).

Actually, in some countries "The Future Begins" was used as an official subtitle. Just not officially in the U.S.

I nominate STJJA for the Abramsverse. Same thing and a lot shorter.

I think whatever becomes common usage needs to be all caps and short and really obvious. If it's not really short, people just won't use it.

I think the Abrams reference works long term because this is what Abrams wrought and that's always going to be true. For better or worse, Abrams produced and directed the birth of this reality, and that will still be true 20 years from now.

ST09 is obvious now but doesn't work at all long term. I'm using STXI for the movie.

I also don't think altenate reality really works either, despite Memory Alpha picking it. Ten year and three movies from now, calling the current reality the alternate reality is going to confuse newcomers. And then we're back to fandom as a dense thicket unwelcoming to newcomers.

I do like NewTrek but that's a lost cause, it's just too close to nuTrek. And nuTrek ~is~ silly but I'm using it too. It's quick & easy & unambiguous to refer to nuKirk and Kirk Prime when I'm talking about both.

This is probably going to fix itself eventually because language evolves in specific ways. I'll bet that a couple of movies down the line, we're going to be calling them just by name, and using Prime to refer to all the TOS charactors. But we need something now.

NuTrek sounds gay and noobish, which is insulting.

AbramsVerse gives the guy some credit so i;m okay with that.

Whoever mentioned TRB actually made a good one, it fits in with the rest.

However, i think for now i will call this star trek - cause it's current its my default.

It wouldn't be out of the question to call this the new testament and the other stuff the old testament :P

Don't we have some term to describe the act of calling all of Star Trek rubbish on a Star Trek forum?

And I've got bait! It's so obvious, you should know better. :D

I had at one point proposed calling it TNT, for The New Timeline. Makes it easily distinguishable using similar style acronyms already in used such as TOS, TNG, DS9, etc.

But it would appear I was the only one who thought that was a good idea.:sigh:

I love this idea!!!! It is perfect.

Only problem is i have an image of the new Spock rocking out on the bridge singing the AC/DC song "….SO LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTER AND LOCK UP YOUR WIFE LOCK UP YOUR BACK DOOR AND RUN FOR LIFE! THE MAN IS BACK IN TOWWWWN SO DON’T YOU MESS AROUND CAUSE I’M TNT, I’M DYNAMITE, TNT!!!, AND I'LLLLL WIN THE FIGHT!!!...."
