Am I the only one shocked and sickened by the three people who voted yes?

Well, I can't really say I'm shocked...

I could probably hazard an accurate guess who the other two so far are as well unless they were just people making a bogus vote, but I shall refrain.

I saw that post, I expected nothing better of him, as to the other two I have a fair guess who they are too. But still, admitting to the world you'd proudly kill your own children without a second thought over a delusion, its beyond sick.

So far, assuming the poll results are accurate, over 50% of Christains would tell God to go fuck himself if he tried to take one of their children.

This is both wonderful news and frighteningly confusing at the same tim.e

A handful of forum-goers on a Star Trek bulletin board is hardly a representative sample ;).

I voted to say "No I would not" but while I do believe in god, I'm not Christian. So I'm probably throwing off your results.

I think the question assumes there isn't the possibility of delusion. It really is God asking you.

The question assumes YOU really BELIEVE it. I make no claim either way as to objective truth.

Okay different version. Suppose your kid was Thanos and he had the Infinity Guantlet and he was going to snap his fingers and kill half the universe, and the Living Tribunal gives you his power, but says you have to personally kill him, do you do it?

Point is the situation is unavoidable, then what do you do?

No. I can't explain why...but no.

I agree.

I'm sorry, but my kids could be showering the world with distilled Ebola and singing Jingle Bells while they were doing it. I still couldn't kill them.

Just a side question. How far would you go to protect them? If you knew your child was committing severe crimes would you turn him in. Hide him, but try and convince him to turn himself in? I am tempted to ask if your child was about to shoot somebody and somebody was about to shoot him would you shoot the person who was about to shoot your child, but that is getting a little too Reservoir Dogs.

I would really hope that I would. Same as if I faced the challenge of Hosea.

What it that, if you don't mind me asking? Unless it's too personal for you to answer.

I looked it up, but it's kind of vague about what the challenge would be, and I don't want to jump to conclusions and say it's being married to a harlot or something (which was mentioned).

Pretty much that. In short he was told to marry a prostitute who was simply in it for the cash. Plus her name was Gomer...

I think sacrificing loved ones and the whole thing with Hosea are the two hardest commands that are found in the Bible if they were to apply to me. That said, God would not ask for the same thing that He demanded from Abraham.

They would have to deal with the consequences of their actions...I would try to convence them to turn themselves in but I wouldn't go as far as hiding them. I would shoot the person who was about to shoot my child and if my child still shoots we would both deal with the consequences.

I would like to take the Superman approach of serving Justice without it coming to death...if possible.

That's a more difficult question. Far more difficult. Because I'm no longer dealing with their death, but just their incarceration. I would definitely try to get them to turn themselves in.

Standing here right now, I'm not sure I could turn them in myself. I don't know. I know I should. But I don't think I could.

(and in a Mexican standoff, yes I would shoot the other person. Not that I could actually hit a barn door with an elephant gun but I'd try.)
