About those "DS9 vs VOY" etc debates

How do you like the TNG-era series in relation to one another?

But anyways, the show was never going to be like BSG anyways because they didn't have an armada of tens of thousands of people to deal with, nor did they have an entirely empty universe with an enemy constantly hunting them. VOY was set in a universe full of aliens, meaning they'd have plenty of repair bases and commerce hubs to go to for help. Being set in the Delta Quadrant, the only alternative would be for the entire DQ to be completely controlled by the Borg.

In which case, they'd be dead in less than 1 episode.

I don't disagree that they did have some opportunities for resupply and rebuilding. Still, someone needed to keep constant track of what was going on between those stops (not to mention bearing in mind that even when they DID get repairs, they would be from people not certified on Starfleet systems, so they still wouldn't be quite up to the levels they would be at otherwise), because otherwise we're left with having to believe absurdities like that they were replicating shuttles.

Well, the other shows all had non-Starfleet aliens more than capable of interfacing with Fed tech and using it, as well as repairing it without any concerns. Since the Delta Quadrant wouldn't be much different from the Gamma Quadrant in being detached from the Alpha/Beta Quadrants but there were still tech similarities, this is another case of simply expecting something that was never going to be given in the first place because it really wouldn't make much sense.

Besides, the "damages to ship" thing isn't all THAT Necessary. In Farscape Moya hardly ever took lasting damage, but no one complained there.

Doesn't have to be catastrophic damage, but it's going to happen, and we can't have resources just magically appearing out of nowhere without explanation.

Evidently, the overwhelming consensus is "no": ie, there are few people who like TNG-DS9-VOY equally, as I do.

Yes, I admit there were some glaring flaws with VOY, but I like the rather goofy camp effected by the fact of the implausibility of the magically repairing ship and its ridiculous number of shuttle mishaps. It added a light-hearted feeling to the show, which was set it apart from other sci-fi shows, such as Stargate (which I like) or BSG.

I thought in that respect, it was kind of similar to TOS and some of its movies, such as STII--STIV.

But I can see why it would be a severe disappointment to those used to the epic, compelling DS9 as well as VOY's promising premise for a sweeping, unprecedented level of continuity.

Still, it's the differences between the series that makes me appreciate each one. When I want epic storylines with dramatic acting and a darker/more realistic theme, I turn to DS9. When I want a mix of self-contained adventures that portrayed a highly optimistic/humanist view of the future and Picard's moralizing speeches, as well as exploring issues such as Data's quest for humanity and recognition as a sentient lifeform, I turn to TNG. And when I want some sillier episodes with lovable characters who nonetheless are alone and longing for home as they eventually grow into a family, I turn to VOY. I'm just glad they all made it through the fulll seven seasons.
