Before it shut down for no reason, I wonder what exactly it was going to do!

Do you think it was going to try invading the Federation for the third time? For a Borg cube to have gotten that far out into the AQ, it was definitely going to try something. If so, I wonder what fallback plan that cube had this time? Last time, it was time travel. This time? God only knows. I bet the Romulans were glad that it shut down by itself (as well as Picard).

BUT....how are they so sure it won't reactivate again sometime in the future? Those Romulans are playing with fire!

Hah, actually it wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case. The fact that this cube has a queen chamber maybe perhaps means the queen herself was leading the “rescue” attempt. I mean seriously, billions of potential drones were about to go to waste. Better save as many as you can.

Don't know how they got the cube but something does occur to me. If the Borg were smart, and took a page from the Dominion I could see them invading some power adjacent to the Federation, set up shop there and then needle away at Earth until it was assimilated. The broken Romulan empire wouldn't be a terrible choice for that.
