About Catspaw

I re-watched it after this thread popped up and quite enjoyed it, better than I remembered for sure.

Nice! Your opinions are always well-reasoned and we like a lot of the same things, I believe, so I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

Just a note: Uhura handed Kirk a skull specimen to smash over Spock's head.

In real life, shattering a skull on someone's skull would probably be fatal. The specimen must have been fragile, and Vulcans must have hard heads.

Well, the dialogue does make clear that even Mirror Spock is immediate toast ("he'll die without immediate treatment") unless McCoy saves him.

I was took it for a vase! 57 years later, another illusion shattered.:borg:

My takeaway from the main "Mirror, Mirror" fight scene in Sickbay is a little different (even though I was talking about Sulu v. Kirk, not Kirk v. a Vulcan with five times or so a human's strength). It's immediately clear that the only one who can even cope with Mirror Spock is Kirk. Scotty, McCoy and Uhura are tossed around like ragdolls. Kirk uses his peerless fighting tactics (and intelligence) to land a few blows, even, just as he did against Khan.

Scotty certainly fights well in space station bars when Kirk isn't present. But MIRROR and SPOCK'S BRAIN indicate he and McCoy may as well be Tommy Smothers whenever Kirk IS. Heck, in one third year episode (WORLD IS HOLLOW), Kirk actually seems to outlast Spock during one fight. Third year flunky opponents grab Spock's hands rather easily, even restraining him.

It's good to have top-billing.

Part of that also was Shatner's amazing physicality. Nimoy always went out of his way to praise it and admit that he could never hope to match it.

Even though the third year was a mixed bag of nutty material, I still love that awesome neck pinch moment when Spock finally takes the guard. But since it's Year Three, the guy's still conscious and walks away rubbing his neck!

One of Walter Hill's lesser known films is UNDISPUTED starring Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames. During one of their confrontations, Ving hits Wesley (Snipes, not Crusher) to provoke him. My spontaneous MST3K in me instantly informed my friend ''He just gave him the William Shatner double-slap! He Trelaned Wesley Snipes!''
