ABC's 'V' - A collection of "big" ***SPOILERS*** for season 2

What's sad is that this series going down in flames could hurt Johnson's chances of getting either a big screen V movie or a remake based on his superior version of V.

TSG had it's faults without doubt, but even TSG sounds better than what we've been given with nuV.

And Ken DID write the original from which all this came in the first place...

I bet Rosenbaum thought he was going to impress everyone and bring back the fanbase by spilling the beans on these spoilers instead of letting the audience see for themselves. There's not a single thing there that sounds interesting, and a lot that sounds completely ridiculous.

You know, I was happy when it was announced that Rosenbaum would be the showrunner starting from the fifth episode of the 1st season. I was a big fan of his writing on The Shield. However, V got worse since he took over.

Now I wish Scott Peters turned the reins over to Ira Steven Behr like he did on The 4400.

I guess I can't join the hate train on this one. I actually want to see how a couple of these storylines turn out such as the one with Ryan's child (NO Star Child plese) and Bader's "Exiled Queen" role. Plus, I've heard of ideas that sounded terrible on paper, but were played out well in the final product. I'm going to def. give "V" a chance this coming season.

Why would the Visitors, after so shrewdly manipulating their public image with the humans, surprisingly introduce a scary red sky thingie without explanation; bringing human leaders to the brink of war, if it's cover story was that it was meant to help humanity? It makes absolutely no sense except as a badly written red herring to end with what looks like the start of a war only to have it turn out to be (as far as the humans know at first) benign. It's terrible writing.

And wouldn't rapidly greenifying all the world's deserts have some serious weather and climate repercussions?

Well, we saw in last season's finale that Anna launched the red sky business out of revenge for the killing of her soldier-babies (though really she should be blaming whatever moron designed her ship's woefully inadequate security systems). If they're now going to say it has a seemingly benevolent purpose, that sounds like the writers retconning the heck out of it to write themselves out of a corner.

When I saw this thread title, I said, "I'll go ahead and click, since nothing could possibly make me more apathetic about this show."

I was wrong.

I would pay top dollar to see what goes on in V's writers room.

Would it look anything like this?

I know, which is why I said it made no sense. It was clearly intended to be a hostile act as written at the end of last season. To try and somehow turn it into a beneficial act whilst outwardly still behaving as if it were a hostile one (by cutting off all contact with the humans and keeping their motives a secret) goes against everything the Visitors had done from a public relations standpoint up 'til now.

I think the show's flaws are so endemic that no showrunner could save it. It was a weak concept from the start with no vision behind it, it's already saddled with too heavy a baggage of lame and incoherent ideas, and it has one of the weakest overall casts on current television, with the exception of Baccarin and maybe Mitchell. I'd rather see it ended so that something better could take it place.

Thinking of the Fifth Column as Fascist sympathizers inside the Evil Totalitarian Liberal Communist Atheist Gay Anti-American Dictatorship, and the human allies as Tea Partiers, explains what appeal the series has. None of the peculiar suggestions above will take that charm away. Also, it is a mistake to forget that even network executives and advertising buyers are so unconcerned with their values that they only look at the ratings. There's just something appealing to those folks about enemy aliens who are peace-mongering environmentalist and humanitarians. So the show is liable to be with us for a good while yet.

Is there really any other explanation for why the show hasn't been savaged by reviewers except that it is politically correct?

I don't think new V is more politically correct than any other middle-of-the-road sci-fi show out there. I think some journalist/pundits jumped too quickly on the Obama Administration analogue in an attempt to try to make the show more revelant than it actually is.

Now, if the show really went there, it would be controversial and have a bit of a sting to it, though this show plays it safe. (Not to say I agree with the idea that the Obama Administration is sinister, I don't, and I definitely don't consider the Tea Party movement a benign influence, quite the opposite, but that's another discussion).

As for Season 2, I don't mind the reveals. I'm looking forward to seeing the return of Badler, Diana was one of my favorite villains period. Her performance has stayed with me since I was a kid. So, she's a big highlight for me.

Also, we saw Anna extremely upset and making a rash decision in the finale. I can see how it might take a moment to calm her down, explaining why the Vs have cut off contact and why the red sky and the sudden silence would spook the humans. It's not the way the Vs have conducted business in the past true, but Anna was under serious duress. She wasn't thinking clearly. I hope this leads to someone challenging or questioning her more.

The finale did lead us to think the red sky was a threat, but I don't mind them backing off that. Some finales do play mind games with you in the attempt to leave you on the edge of your seat or wanting more. I think these guys are going to have a harder time explaining all those ships heading toward Earth at the end of the show. I think the writers pulled that card way too early, and there are too many ships. I already think they have too many ships on Earth already. More ships is overkill.

As for Hobbs, I think they are trying to make him interesting, beyond the standard supposedly wiseacre badass. They are trying to give him more of an emotional core and trying to give him layers. Will it work, don't know, but I appreciate the attempt.

Ryan's arc seems like a logical extension from last season. Wanting to be with his kid makes sense as does Anna using that to manipulate him.

Don't get the fascination with Tyler at all, but that's been established in Season 1. Perhaps the kid has alien genes or something, an early experiment? At least that wouldn't be too bad.

What I hope to see in Season 2:
-More focus on the other ships spread around Earth.
-Exploration of some of Anna's other lieutenants.
-Expanded group of the American resistance/Mitchell's resistance.
-More focus on other resistance groups and Fifth Column.
-More cameos from the old V cast besides Badler.
-Giving the "Vs" a species name. Come on, its been a whole season already. It always grated my nerves that the aliens would refer to themselves as "Vs".
-More explanation of why the Vs are on Earth.
-Showing a V without human skin.
-Rodent eating.
-Other alien lifeforms.

Season 1 wasn't perfect, but I liked it well enough and will be watching Season 2.
