ABC Network goes dark for NYC area cable...

I wonder how many Nielsen families were in that area. Perhaps ABC didn't want to see a ratings hit for the Oscars that helped move them a little.
I'm pretty sure alot of Cablevision subscribers whiched cable providers, I know I will.

Enough is enough, last month they pulled the Food & Home Networks and we still had to pay for it.

You realize it isn't cablevision, but the networks who caused these incidents, right?

If they had just agreed to ABC's deal out of the box, your bill would have had an additional $16+ fee attached just so you could watch ABC...

My family gave up on cable tv years ago, we made the switch to directv back in '96, and we've never regretted it.
That being said, I do love the internet service, and it's the only thing I'm willing to pay them for.

The out come of folks switching would still be the same regardless of who's at fault.

I agree, to an extent. I think that the reason that those networks are gouging the cable and sat providers is because they need the money. They need the money because their business model is beyond being on life support and has one foot in the grave. They are middle men, and they will be gone soon enough. But the best is that, with the shift to primarily non open-air delivery methods such as cable and sat, you have two middle men for some channels.

Studio makes content, sells content to network > Network provides content to Delivery (Cable/sat) and charges usage fees > Delivery (Cable/sat) provides access to the Network for, and charges, customer.

Why not just go to a direct access system...

Studio makes content > Studio sells content to customer.

Or the internet stream system...

Studio makes content > Streaming service pays licensing fee > Customer pays Streaming Service membership fee, watches streamed content.

Both seem far more economical and less confusing to me.

Someone I get cable TV for free because I called up Charter because the internet was so damn slow and they are like "For $10 more a month you get the faster internet and 100 channels". So whatever.

I heard the ads on the radio about this, CableVision painting ABC as corporate fat cats. So transparent. CableVision's trying to protect their profit margins, too, y'know.
